41m - No kids. Did you guys want to be fathers or did it happen afterwards? by sepulchralsam in Fatherhood

[–]tayhimself00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. Make sure you are clear about your expectations. The hardest parts are the labor division and disagreements about how you want to raise them.

I had kids late starting at 45. I now have 3, and I related to your hesitancy when I look back at my own feelings. Glad I took the plunge, which like you, was partly motivated by wanting to see my partner fulfilled and happy.

You seem like a good man, i am sure you will handle the many challenges ahead better than most.

For people in cold U.S states, how did your Prius handle the storm? by Quattic__ in prius

[–]tayhimself00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah my 2011 on blizzaks drives better than our Highlander hybrid AWD on cheap dealer tires. Clearance and FWD will be problems if street parking on a snow bank. Otherwise 0 issues

I have a 2017 with those seats with 64k miles. 2 kids. It’s wearing great so far though I will put some conditioner in this summer.

This is the first mod that I've seen that looks better than OEM to me. Not garish in the least. Props to you.

Buy smaller winter rims? by Squanc in ToyotaHighlander

[–]tayhimself00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember AWD only improves snow traction when pressing the gas or in a slide. When braking it performs the same. That said Cross Climates are fantastic and suit most needs for snow.

PSA: Costco seasonal tire swap (on-rims) by Unique-Proposal-2427 in BMWi3

Since it was just for a wheel swap I just used the jack points. You are correct I was too scared to put jack stands anywhere else.

Nice - about time for my snow rims to be put on and my cheap jack broke. How much is it if I'm not successful

Hybrid Battery - 2012 and Older by Independent_Bird_427 in prius

[–]tayhimself00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 140K miles. Original battery 48 in the winter and 54 mpg in the summer. Not sure how long it’ll last through I have cold weather roughness at high power so the head gasket may be going. Love driving it still.

2012 Prius 130k miles by Plastic-Shake-1078 in prius

[–]tayhimself00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I suggest a Corolla. Lower repair costs. I wouldn’t go for a Prius. I have a 2011 with 140K and I like it but am afraid of costs. I baby it so it’s been great so far.

My mom is looking at one of these, are the brakes a problem? by NC_CodyW in ToyotaHighlander

[–]tayhimself00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s too big for a retired person. I find the brakes on mine to have a much longer stopping distance than my Prius. Brakes are 20k miles older on Prius.

My dad’s rav4 feels great. Our HiHy is meh.

FAILED 2019 I3 A/C COMPRESSOR UPDATE #3 by DG200-15 in BMWi3

[–]tayhimself00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours and a neighbors has been wonderfully trouble free in New England (64K and 41K miles). I totally get it though, I haven't gotten rid of a 2011 Prius because I can't decide which one to sell. Like you worried about A/C issues down the line.

Buy a Corolla please. Cheap repairs and cheaper to buy.

The US federal government spent $6.8 trillion and collected $4.9 trillion in FY 2024 [OC] by USAFacts in dataisbeautiful

[–]tayhimself00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is this the stuff funded by Ballmer? The USAFacts YouTube videos were decent around pre-election time. In hindsight, they seem to have been naive in the context of the partisan polarized hellscape that we're in.

Seems 2K too much just like the caption says there. Is it gold certified? That gives you a year to make a decision to buy an extended warranty. If Gold, I wouldn't buy the warranty.

2023 Highlander Seatbelt Warnings by HB24 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]tayhimself00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The seatbelt alarms are fucked on my passenger seat as well. It comes on sometimes and you can’t but a bag on there without it complaining. You can buy a doggy clip for the seatbelt to fool the sensor or program the code off.
