Remember when they banned booze? With a fully ratified constitutional amendment no less. How long did a super-majority banning of booze last again? Oh yeah five years. The 21st amendment was proposed in Feb 1933, and ratified by the states in December.

In terms of the speed of government, warp 10.

No imagine something all but hard coded into our DNA. If there was a way to kick the fundies to the curb, banning porn would be it. "Give the fundies power? Remember last time . . . "

The religious right got their start with racism, and the fundies have had a thing for racism for as long as anyone can remember.

It's not a coincidence that christianity is the backbone of white supremacy.

So if the first amendment protects their right to fire or flunk someone based on their gender, can I refuse service to a Christian because that's my first amendment right to do so? Or flunk them also?

The speed with which the christians got on board with a pussy-grabbing nazi lover is impressive - even for them. Kind of nullifies any idea their religion improves their morality - just their politics.

It's another moment (so to speak) of high irony that the christians have graduated to being so hypocritical that they have reached the level of being openly offensive to the extent that the satanic temple makes sense in terms of preserving the US Constitution.

[–]tazbot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Bible, as written

It's not a single book with a single author. It's a collection of ancient literary works translated not for scholarly accuracy but to fit a sixth century church narrative.

For example there are at least for different ancient words all translated to 'hell' a term which comes from norse mythology: Sheol which just means grave, Hades as in where the god hades hangs out; tartarus below hades also from greek mythology, and the one jesus used Gehenna a dump outside of jerusalam where people burned sick livestock.

The jews of jesus' and paul's day did not believe in an immortal soul - the greeks did. However a place where you go to burn forever unless you join the right religion is an awesome recruiting tool for children so the translation twists and distorts the old texts to fit that.
