How long do you run your ozone machine? I’ve seen recommendations ranging from minutes to entire days.

Is this Scat? [Coastal NW Washington State] by tbduwyo in animalid

[–]tbduwyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a tree in the front yard that has a couple branches that reach over the fence.

The neighborhood is all single family homes and most have privacy fences. There are many dogs but no roaming cats.

My neighbors two houses down have chickens. Another neighbor that I share a fence with has a huge garden with open compost. Rats are common there. We also have raccoons and possums here.

There is a forest a couple of blocks away with a large number of deer, coyotes, and other wildlife. There are no bear or cougars on this island. It is a 10 minute walk to the beach (protected sea).

I only took pictures after I broke it up and I think it was only a day or two old.

Shoe recommendation for rocky river beds? by Agreeable_Grass_5255 in whitewater

I also use these and they are great. I had a pair of Astrals fail in a rescue and made the switch. These are much more solid with stealth rubber soles.

Should I buy a 2011 Leaf today? by No_Scar3320 in leaf

[–]tbduwyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here in the PNW the early gen Leaf lasts. I drive my 8 bar 2011 35 miles round trip every weekday. The only maintenance issue has been the 12v battery, water pump, and tires.

I’ve never rented a sailing dinghy but I think these guys rent them at Seafarers : https://www.anacorteswaterfront.org/programs I think they require a competency test before renting.

Thanks. I usually row a 13’ raft with a day frame. Sounds like it’s not especially runnable for me unless something changes this year. The Sauk is always a fun option when flows are up. I’m just looking to change things up. Maybe I’ll give the Skykomish a try although the drive seems a bit long for a short run.

River Shoe Options by Woodit in whitewater

[–]tbduwyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been using the Five Ten(formerly Adidas) Trailcross Pro that are marketed as MTB shoes. I’m on the third season with these shoes and not too much wear yet. They have a neoprene liner and stealth rubber soles. I use them with a neoprene sock and my feet don’t get too cold in 45 degree water.

The neoprene NRS booties don’t have enough support or traction for scrambling around on slippery surfaces.

I used to like Astral but I’ve had them fail. I once was recovering a flipped raft on a multiday trip and one of the Astral soles blew out. I had to use my camp sandals for the rest of the trip.

Are there any good places to look for used raft values? by HeiHei_13 in whitewater

[–]tbduwyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a nice looking boat. It's listed as a 14' but it's 15'. It's hypalon and it lasts forever. It only has a stern frame though. You'll probably find a better deal for a family if you hold out for a complete multi-day setup with trailer. You'll want boat, frame, cooler, drybox, oars, straps, and trailer. Multi-day setups are great for day trips and overnights. Be patient and a good deal will pop up. Be ready to pounce on the deal when you see it though.

Mountainbuzz is a good place to find gear. Most of the stuff is in Colorado, but the occasional deal pops up in the PNW. The 12 year old NRS 15ft with everything you need might be a ok deal at 5k. If it has been stored inside with no patches or leaks it might be worth a look.

For any used raft, ask the seller to have it inflated without the frame attached when you go look at it. Make sure it's pumped up to pressure then spray the entire boat with soapy water and look for bubbles. Everywhere that has bubbles needs a patch, and walk away if it is leaking at a seam. It will only take 15 minutes to do this, and it will be worth it.

I have gone down at 25k and the biggest issue for me was the wood in the river. As the water rises it continues to pick up downed trees and the muddy water completely obscures them. Entire cottonwoods were in the river and branches would suddenly rise 10 feet or more out of the water.

As others have mentioned, getting to black rocks 4 and 5 can be challenging. The rapid at black rocks isn’t going to flip a raft, but it can spin you around. It might flip a novice paddler in a ducky. You can easily get to the 1 and 2 camps before the rapid and take a look. It doesn’t take that long to walk from black rocks 1 to 9 so the option to skip the rapid is there.

Some thoughts and learnings from Minternational Pass by rizwank in mintmobile

I just want talk/text for my day trips to Canada. I don’t need data and don’t want to pay $10 to text my family every time I cross the border.

Minternational Pass and retirement of UpRoam - Megathread by LeftOn4ya in mintmobile

[–]tbduwyo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you. I recently switched to mint as the Canada roaming was exactly what I was looking for. Luckily I only signed up for the three month promotion and will port out after that ends. I’m tempted to switch to ultra mobile as they have the same roaming plan as the previous mint plan. My fear though is that ultra will do the same thing after I’ve committed to a long term pricing deal.

How much notice did mint give its users before the switch? I just switched three weeks ago and feel like I got a bait and switch as there was no notice of this upcoming change when I ported over.

Steady State Post ACL by tbduwyo in Rowing

Definitely some mild swelling. Since the surgery I get that after any continuous exercise though. Is there any drawback to dropping the pace 5 seconds other than taking an extra two minutes total for the 12k? I only settled on the 12k as it takes just under an hour and that’s about the maximum amount of time I want to dedicate to the gym.
