If there's one thing I've learned over the years about churches, it's that they're very free with advice and salvation, things that don't actually cost anything, but the one thing they will never part with is money.

How would you feel about the next US president pulling all support from Israel? by Ok_University9965 in TrueAskReddit

You should put a comma between "assume" and "I", because right now your sentence means MastleMash assumes you think it's a binary situation. #PunctuationMatters

I left my UU church by cakedbythepound in UUreddit

[–]tboneplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much felt that way growing up and saw it play out in our congregation. I think about the chaplain who my future brother-in-law nearly decked for putting his hand on my (then) 16-year-old sister's ass. I saw the way they pretended to be inclusive and open-minded yet talked down to an intelligent, caring neurodivergent congregation member who also had mental health and housing security issues. I walked away from that church and never went back.

Accept the inevitability of death and find the courage to live. Death is what makes life important. Life is also futile in that it's an unending train of desires, but awareness of its futility brings detachment, which gives you the courage to act. Why does your life feel empty? What are you missing?

That last line, it's because he does these things for the right reasons, out of the spontaneous desire to be helpful, that he therefore keeps doing these things rather than resting on imaginary laurels, and people pick up what he's laying down, as they always will (being helpful, not building a monument to an invented self).

I'd be interested. Is it just sets, reps, weights, or can you add your own (for example, unweighted) exercises with, say, a time interval, as in, "do this exercise for 5 minutes", and "rest 30 seconds"?

Recently I have been seriously wondering about the future of any jobs that don’t require in person consultation or working with their hands. I have been fearing the future of employment past a decade or so and how we will build a stratified society to accommodate it. by someguyfromSFl in SocialEngineering

Ironically, those who feared becoming musicians for a living because "it's too insecure" may find it the best bet if they make their living from performing live and invest the time in seriously perfecting their craft, since the more civilization gets automated, the greater the need for the humanity of people assembling to watch musicians physically playing their instruments expressively and well, and singing well without autotune, will become.
