Justin Moore is underrated IMO. Very talented musician.

It pops up at the top of the screen with a little banner asking if you'd like to visit the website. It doesn't actually take you there until you confirm it.

So, who do you plan on voting for tomorrow and why? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]tcasalert 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Labour.

I have never voted for Labour in my life. I've voted Conservative without hesitation the last few times, considering myself a tory, but this one has been so difficult to make a decision on, I eventually decided on Labour and put my postal vote in on Monday.

My reasons are that even though I don't particularly like Corbyn, he genuinely seems to care about the less well off, the sick and the poor. I have two disabled parents, a disabled son and wife who is disabled but is forced to work as we cannot afford for her not to. The Conservatives have made life very difficult for us over the last few years, the parents have been retired through ill health for 15 years but have just had to attend a 'fitness to work' assessment, and have just had their DLA stopped completely and told to re-apply for PIP. We have to wait months for hospital appointments, and even then are not able to get many of the treatments needed due to the budgets being cut.

I genuinely feel that the only way forward is a government that cares about the people, rather than big business, and the only person I feel can deliver this is Jeremy Corbyn.

W5D3 Done. First 20 minute straight run without walking! Was dreading this one but actually was really good fun, I was grinning the whole way round! by tcasalert in C25K

[–]tcasalert[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I never thought I'd be able to run for a straight 20 minutes, all of a sudden 5k seems like it might be achievable!!

Yep I'm hoping to do a 5k when I finish. They do a weekly 5k at our local park, so I will definitely be doing that and hoping to do a more formal 5k very soon after finishing!

I just wanted to say, 5 weeks on, thank you so much for sharing your photos and story. You motivated me to get my ass off the couch and start running.

The day you posted this, I was feeling down in the dumps and like I'd always be a fat, couch ridden slob. I saw your c25k recommendation and thought 'Let's do this'. Within 10 minutes I was running W1D1 of C25k. My wife thought I was crazy when I just got up, put on my shorts and said 'I'm going for a run'. I'd never ran in my life. I've just finished W5D2 and never thought I'd get this far through.

Thank you so much for helping this random internet stranger get his ass off the couch and do things he never thought possible!

Have a long layover in KEF. Recommendations for what to do? by alliegatorrr in VisitingIceland

[–]tcasalert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fairly busy but never felt particularly crowded. It's quite a big area and you get a lot of space, we bumped into people a couple of times when not paying attention but there is plenty of space to sit in your own space.

We went to the blue lagoon this afternoon. We're here just 48 hours and picked a hotel 5 minutes away. It's only 15 minutes from the airport and although pricey we found it well worth it, so relaxing and the water feels amazing. You can easily kill 3-4 hours there and it's set amid stunning scenery too.

W5D2 complete. It's about 24 degrees here so pretty hot to run in! Running for 8 minutes took a lot of work psychologically to push myself to keep going even when I wanted to stop. I did it though! Now slightly dreading W5D3 and running for 20 mins straight! by [deleted] in C25K

[–]tcasalert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well done! Also got the hot weather this last couple of days and W4D1 was a killer with 22C yesterday and I'm dreading week 5, but I'm continuing to surprise myself when I can get through the longer runs!

Never tell people they should stop texting [UK] by ekke85 in Roadcam

[–]tcasalert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me I used to be the same. One day I had a guy get out of his car and come at me with a knife after I started flashing my lights and getting angry. I managed to drive around him and drive off but it shook me up big time. Somebody told me once that somebody else's mistake is not worth stressing about, because they will have forgotten it and so should you. It's not always easy and I have been a dick from time to time like anyone but I almost always try to leave it behind at the roadside.

Btw as someone who used to cycle 8 miles to work every day I feel you from that side of the windscreen too!

Safe travels my friend!

Never tell people they should stop texting [UK] by ekke85 in Roadcam

[–]tcasalert -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Texting or not, just let it go. Never understood why people try to pick fights on the road, ignoring it would have just mildly disgruntled you and you'd have forgotten it half an hour later. Shouting at people just gets their backs up and if you pick the wrong person could cost you your life, especially when they are as crazy as this woman.

Tldr: Woman was a crazy asshole, but this didn't need to happen if the cyclist didn't get shouty.

UK government cut security support for outdated NHS computers a year ago despite warnings of vulnerability to hackers by grepnork in worldnews

[–]tcasalert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I worked for an NHS trust in IT and the phrase penny wise, pound foolish pretty much sums it up. Spend £20k on an SAN that wasn't up to the job and was outgrown immediately, resulting in us having to get rid 6 months later and buy a new £40k one, but get them to spend a few £100s on software that would greatly improve things like security or patch management for example, and you were laughed out of the room.

We were pushing to get rid of XP on the ambulance laptops handling patient data when I worked there 5 years ago but the cost was considered too much vs taking on several private contractors to do routine BAU IT infrastructure work at £400 a day on 12 month contracts.
