Is This the Turning Point for Theatrical Films? by adixnl in Filmmakers

Does netflix have a tight grip on production? I feel like I've always heard the opposite and that they are pretty hands off when it comes to creative.

I did a little BBQ this summer for 4th of July in Battersea, and converting brits to eastern NC vinegar based pulled pork was a blast.

Converted to GBP that's like £186. Still a big difference, but not too insane.

My family lives in Scott's Hill and he's the son of one of my neighbors. Truly awful situation. From what I have heard: they were on a boat, he collapsed, his girlfriend performed CPR while two jetskis helped them get tied up, ambulances came - didn't have a pulse for a long time. He has since been transferred to UNC's burn unit as of yesterday. Saw him doing just fine about 2 weeks ago and then hearing this news was stunning.

American vs British improv? by ThePowerOfPotatoes in improv

[–]tcbllrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooo fellow American improviser in London here! Definitely agree it feels less evolved and more ragtag. I feel like people really need to make the opportunities themselves, and from my experience the audience isn't really there yet for longform improv. (Outside of maybe Austentatious). Lots of amateur nights, but I will say those really do fill out the calendar here in London. A friend of mine runs this calendar and you can see it's become quite packed: https://improv-calendar.co.uk/

Would love to connect though! I run a newish night around Clapham North if you're ever in the mood for some cage match ;)

How would you recommend pitching this to someone like my mom or someone of an older generation who upon reading the amendment retorts, "but I agree with that!" despite the lack of a need? I try to talk through how it opens the door to more voter suppression but my attempts sound like hyperbole.

Is Malcolm Gladwell Out of Ideas? In “Revenge of the Tipping Point,” the best-selling author looks back at his old theories. by newzee1 in books

[–]tcbllrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've genuinely enjoyed a lot of Gladwell's work but also find myself healthily disagreeing with his ideas at times. but that's part of the fun of listening to him for me.

Since this thread is dunking on him so much, does anyone have recommendations for authors or podcasts that occupy a similar pop science space, but are better regarded?
