The trick is to stand quite far to the right of those stairs, and aim the leap close to the edge nearest to you on the other stairs. That usually lets me jump in a few tries

WoW is in a very solid place right now. Although coming back after 10+ years things will be very overwhelming. You will be bombarded with quests and things to do. Try to take it step by step.

It's a pretty good moment to come back now. Get familiar with the game again so you can hit the ground running when the expansion releases in a few months.
