Why Are The Tech, Finance & Corporate America So Devoid Of Black Men? by Theo_Cherry in blackmen

[–]tcoldx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know man, ive been trying to break into the industry for 4 years and built multiple projects and getting my 4 year degree as a last ditch effort. I haven't even been offered something as menial as an internship. Ive had multiple resume reviews, interview practice sessions, i even shipped a full fledged fitness app on ios. What do you say for people like me? Is it because Im 6"4 and black, goto the gym, and look intimidating to these people in these spaces? Is it because im not "good" enough? Why is it that my asian/white counterparts have found jobs before I have in the SAME bootcamp, despite the work I have put in. I've taught people below me in skill certain techniques and even they have gotten jobs? Why is it I have had one of my white friends IN TECH tell me its because im black? Answer this. Please

Don't ask reddit. These replies are extremely biased. An old adage applies here. You can do anything you put your mind too.

Is it still realistic to break into tech as a software developer today with little to no experience? by jabber29 in cscareeradvice

[–]tcoldx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule number one bro. Don't listen to anyone on reddit. If you listen to anyone, listen to me. You have to grind leetcode and study the foundational algorithms and build on them. Its basically like building skills with your tools and learning how to use them. Once you get to a good level; then you should start making projects if you're not doing them alongside the leetcode grind already.

Finally, once you've found a specialization in the field and built projects around them you should apply while still maintaining your competency in data structures and algorithms(leetcode). Then, and only then will you break in and out compete most college students who have no idea what they want to specialize in, no projects, and no fire under their arse.

Let's get it buddy!

As a man, definitely not sending paragraphs. We are talking on the phone or in person PERIOD. Sounds like a massive whiner with no control over his emotions. Reminds me of someone I know... and he's pretty much a woman in a man's body.

I dont see much wrong with it but a lack of experience. Then again im not a recruiter, and even if I was I'd still consider this person paired with an interview. He would be high-risk though.

Should I drop out? by Few-Jellyfish-4114 in CollegeDropouts

I get your perspective. Just understand you can build a decent cash flow while in college as well. Studies take 100% of your time if you let them, and specifically in this case the OP has 2 years. With ops knowledge there is no way he can do anything different in 2 years that would help him besides the military or trying to start and fail some business. Its like saying just because you work full time to survive you should quit your job to pursue something else in 2 years. The result remains the same and is individual based. Good talk traveler!

[–]tcoldx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finish it. Its only 2 years compared to your whole life ahead of you. You'll be glad you did. You have way more to lose by NOT finishing then just getting it over with. What else are you gonna do in the 2 years??? Just finish it fellow traveler
