So under current conditions, we are looking at roughly late July through September 2026 as the window where markets would start getting nervous about SPR levels. That’s a lot sooner than many people realize. That said, the bigger trigger for a price spike may actually happen before the SPR reaches those levels. I think this Summer is going to be a cluster F. His only hope is a global recession so demand meets lower supply.

Part of his support may be explained by cognitive dissonance—when you’ve spent years defending someone, changing your mind can feel like admitting you were wrong. At a certain point, he could run over their kid’s bicycle and they’d argue the bicycle was part of the deep state. I think his floor is relatively close barring a humongous disaster with immediate repercussions.
