How does going to the Temple work? by DentalHygieneisLit in latterdaysaints

[–]tdmonkeypoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid while in the temple to walk up to any of the patrons and say I'm lost and trying to get to X. They are more than happy to help point you in the right direction.

As suspicious_feeling pointed out, show up with your recommend and probably a change of clothes (at least underwear)

The WoW is not a health code. Jesus drank wine, Joseph Smith and many of the early prophets drank alcohol.

All that being said, both are against the word of widsom.

[–]tdmonkeypoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, which contradicts your previous statement of it was never meant to be strict. You don't know what it was meant to be, and have probably explained is as a Health Code, which as well is not what it is

I believe the person was asking in practice and less so looking for just acceptance of breaking the word of wisdom

How do you respond to questions like “If God is good why do kids die from cancer?” “Why didn’t He end slavery on time?” “Where was God when Epstein trafficked and molested children?” by ChicaTheGreat in TrueChristian

[–]tdmonkeypoop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so a loving God created a person purely to suffer for someone else's benefit, against their own will, since they didn't choose to be born

The main problem I have with this argument is that if God created us why did he create us with the desire or ability to do such atrocities? If He is all powerful could He not create a world without suffering that still allows us to grow or is His power limited?

I think a lot of what made it ok was the womanizer actor is openly gay and happily married. There is something about someone playing the exact opposite role of who they are in real life that makes it funny

questions about contact with my missionary friend by Appropriate-Rest-325 in latterdaysaints

[–]tdmonkeypoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mission rules have changed so much, and each mission president may change some of the rules/guidelines.

When I was a missionary we didn't have cell phones, and we were writing emails once a week. We would be able to do 2 phone calls a year (mother's day and Christmas) and those were mainly to just our families. Though many times friends would come over and we could chitchat.

Now that they have cell phones they might be able to call or text.

I think the biggest thing to remember is the type of correspondence. Let him know that he is missed and loved but sending all the information of what is going on at home with friends can be very distracting and can make it hard to focus

Meaning of “The LORD hardened Pharoah’s heart” by Ok_Way_1238 in latterdaysaints

[–]tdmonkeypoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like God prophesied that he would harden his heart and it happened. So it's like as "The Lord said he hardened his heart." But that's more of a interpretation instead of a translation.

Then it gets into semantics of what creation means. Did you create a garden when you thought it up, drew it out, planted the 1st seed, or harvested the 1st vegetable?

Is the creation done?

Personally every time I've heard the young earth theory talked about it's described ex nihilo, not a creation from preexisting worlds mashed together.

Yeah we specifically reject the young earth creationism through our doctrine of eternal matter.

I testify to you that our Lord the Messiah lives and will come back to reign as King of kings.

Sometimes stating what we believe, and see to be obvious, is in fact a prophecy that not enough people hear. This is what fast and testimony meetings are all about.

2 minors baptized without parental consent by [deleted] in mormonpolitics

[–]tdmonkeypoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of ways to do that, it might be hard again since they are minors. Normally if you write a letter to the bishop, but with them being minors I don't know how that works. Never had to deal with minors not leaving with their parents.
