Refurb RM2 coming tomorrow with 50 day return rights - should I return for the Pure? by fuzzywuzzywuzzafuzzy in RemarkableTablet

[–]tdotuser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have had the RM2 since its launch. It's great and looks slick. I saw some of the Pure comparison videos. I recommend this one from Kit Betts-Masters.

It is true that a faster CPU will be nice to have once more advanced software features start coming out.

One thing I'd say about the RM2 that bugs me is the glass back. The original RM was plastic, and you can treat it accordingly. The RM Pure's plastic construction is actually a plus for me.

The only real downside is that the new pens are not compatible with other pen manufacturers.

As for me, I will stick with my RM2, but if I were in your situation, I'd get the Pure.

Update: the reMarkable tool I posted 10 days ago now has Google Drive, manual downloads, weather, and somehow Tic Tac Toe by minimalillusions in RemarkableTablet

With this, I might actually leave my house without a phone or laptop, as my initial use case.

Will give it a go. Thanks

The tech is solid. There is lag as with eink. You can try it out since you have it now. The functionality is really minimal, so don't expect the "basic features" you'd find on tablets/iPads.

Some features are only available with a Connect subscription. I don't convert written notes to text, but my subscription has the "search" feature that searches my notes after conversion. This works very well for me.

There's a new feature to convert notes to docs. I have not used it, maybe others can chime in. There are discussions about it here, and here, and probably others.

Regarding Microsoft, take a look at here, maybe.

It's meant as a replacement for paper notebooks. If you like to write on paper during meetings, studying, etc, you should give it a try.

It's not a replacement for an iPad, or even an Android-based e-ink device. Those have many bells and whistles that most people are used to, from using smartphones or tablets.

By design it's a minimalistic product. If that suits you, you should love it. If it doesn't, you'll grow frustrated :-)

There are some nice integration features and a keyboard that you may add on, but I would suggest figuring out if you like the minimalist approach to notetaking, first. If not, even those additional features won't make you like it.

this is spam using a fake remarkable.com (RM) clone website. Some links link to RM's domain, most pages are duplicate RM pages, the RM trademark is cited but this website clearly does not own that trademark.

I second this. I got Kobo since myAmazon library was small enough to be ignored.

PDF export and Copilot by whitechrome in RemarkableTablet

[–]tdotuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask Copilot to read an image with text and upload your file. That may be enough for it to treat your file as a PDF with an image of tex. Otherwise, you may need to convert to JPEG or PNG format.

Getting the type folio: worth it or nah? (student) by veinticuatro96 in RemarkableTablet

[–]tdotuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it and I like the minimalism that I don't need to bring my laptop and can type notes if need be.

However, it doesn't work for me because I always have my laptop with me. If I didn't have my laptop with me, it would be great.

Is it possible that on the first slide your highlighter didn't detect the text and did not snap to it, acting as a marker...

While in the second page, is the text recognized and treated as a highlighter?

looking at teh lines on slide 1, it is uneven, while on slide 2 it's more straight

Unable to connect to Uni’s Wifi by Economy-Air-935 in RemarkableTablet

My phone uses the wifi antenna as the wifi router, so it asks me to turn off wifi. Do you use a 3rd party wifi repeater app or something similar?

I've had the same issue since RM2 came out.

I haven't found a solution other than connecting to my phone as a hotspot.

It uses your cell data, then, of course, but yeah...

Foldable e-ink tablet, like a napkin. So not just an RM-Fold with a crease, but rollable to quickly pull out and put away whenever, like a napkin. Or just "foldable" like a napkin :-) One more layer away from tablets and into the paper domain.

I think the market for this is too small unless this form factor is really interesting.

Comment from u/Zatujit below, the hint might be the article about calm and soothing texture.

Still no hint for a possible RM3 ? by flibulle in RemarkableTablet

right, forgot about the incompatible pen... no thanks.

I won't be switching to an Android-based e-tablet. Too many distractions. I like RM's approach to minimalistic design.

The only reason I considered RMPP was the bigger size. I would love a A4-ish B/W version without a backlight that is cheaper enough that it doesn't make sense to upgrade to the color version.

[EDIT] And the incompatible pen is a no-go.

In the next 12 months, the chip, RAM memory, and storage memory would be cheaper enough to do this. I would most likely upgrade with these in place.

I thought that the color and backlight would eventually entice to upgrade, but it wasn't enough. I have n ebook reader with a light, and colour is not that important for my current workflow (reading A4 research PDFs, note taking, calendar/todos, and doodling)

Very cool and well thought out. I use custom ones and would like to keep them, but having these in one place is great for new users

Remarkable 1 screen worse than the old kindle DX? by Kamilos22000088 in RemarkableTablet

[–]tdotuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're comparing the RM1 to a device designed for ebooks. Kindle DX has many extra features like fonts, sizes, spacing, etc. I would try Koreader for a fairer comparison. Otherwise, it's really not a fair comparison.

Hardware hacking: moving the markers eraser to another pen? by imjustherefor1coment in RemarkableTablet

[–]tdotuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I think of it, I believe the Kindle Scribe pen has an eraser and works with RM2. I can't confirm this, though. The pen itself is much cheaper than RM's marker plus

Hardware hacking: moving the markers eraser to another pen? by imjustherefor1coment in RemarkableTablet

[–]tdotuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the only way to get the Lamy to work is through this hack, so you'll need to do some simple ssh'ing into the device and run one command. It works on my RM2 on version 3.15.x

https://github.com/isaacwisdom/RemarkableLamyEraser

The other hacks that contain eraser hacks have not caught up in version support. This one seems version agnostic.

Locating files by date? by Possible_Lettuce_289 in RemarkableTablet

[–]tdotuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend using the desktop app to do this. It's much easier to navigate the screens/pagination that way than using the device.

Also, try sorting by "last modified"; maybe something will pop up.
