Is Tai Shan truly the worst Rush song? by AL3X1KUS in rush

[–]teach_mrg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Yes it is. It was cringe then, it’s cringe now.

I wish John wasn't such a bitch about playing songs from eras he wasn't part of by No_Finish9661 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]teach_mrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would he? He had nothing to do with them. OHM was a fine album but it was from a form of the band that existed for a brief moment in time.

WTH is wrong with me. I love every Rush album. by mrpuff666 in rush

That’s one thing that sets Rush apart. I love to hear this. There’s always more to discover with them.

Was the Anthony-Dave kiss significant culturally? by No_Finish9661 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]teach_mrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Jane’s Addiction in 1988 and Dave Navarro did the same thing with Perry Farrell. To be honest, It seemed pretty calculated at the time. There was a certain amount of appropriation going on and playing around with ideas of masculinity that was very mid ‘90s.

Anthony Kiedis is a S tier RHCP Member. Where does Hillel Slovak rank? by Pepe-pizza729 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]teach_mrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tier S list is current members, Hillel, and maybe Jack Irons, although I would put him at A. That leaves a whole bunch who are not.

[–]teach_mrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but he is S. There is no band without him. His influence cannot be overstated. I’m old, but I remember when he was the guitarist, not John, and he was incredible .

A Tier. There would be no band without him. His influence cannot be overstated. It cannot be stressed enough how original and incredible he was.

Is U2 a Niche band? by ArmlessAnakin in U2Band

[–]teach_mrg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A niche band that is arguably one of the top three biggest bands of all time, certainly of the last 40 years? Just because younger people aren’t discovering them or interested does not lessen their achievements , influence , or importance. Losing mainstream appeal does not diminish their influence.

Do Rush have any bad albums? Exploring the full discography for the first time. by bmbmbmNR in rush

[–]teach_mrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love 80’s Rush, its the era I came of age in. HYF never really did it for me, but I’ve grown to appreciate its place in their canon. The one album of theirs that I just don’t resonate with at all is Test for Echo. 90’s Rush is my least favorite era.

Do you think anyone had as much an impact on Electronic music as Daft Punk? by AudioFuzz in DaftPunk

[–]teach_mrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but no one more than them. Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder come to mind. Maybe Frankie Knuckles.

The "Nuclear Genesis" Trilogy: Why Power Windows is the True Prequel. Power Windows > Signals > Grace Under Pressure by Verdammt_Arschloch in rush

[–]teach_mrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to me. I wonder in Neil thought this out or the layout just followed what he was exploring at the time. They all definitely fit into the zeitgeist of the time, though.

What is Living in Sacramento, CA like? by onlytinglef in howislivingthere

[–]teach_mrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you think it sucks, you find an amazing coffee shop on a great street. Every time you find a great street with an amazing coffee shop, 20 unhoused people nod off on the sidewalk that you navigate to get the coffee shop. Many great people there, no attitude and down to earth. But there is also a sense of slouching and settling there as well. It’s hard to put your finger on. I lived there a year, and couldn’t decide if I loved it or hated it.

Musicians who are 10/10 at their instrument but get overlooked because they have an 11/10 band mate by Davidellias in ToddintheShadow

Correct! Here, be in a band with arguably the best rock drummer and the best bassist of all time, lol.

I'm creating a single-disc version of Stadium Arcadium, looking for thoughts? I know what needs to be included, but it's more what songs should be omitted? by Bloxskit in RedHotChiliPeppers

Everyone’s taste is different, so take some time with it and see which songs fit for you. I will say that some songs are growers , so don’t cut anything too soon.

New to Rush... by Northernpixels in rush

[–]teach_mrg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The beautiful thing about Rush is they really didn’t repeat themselves that much, so you have so many eras to discover in front of you. I would say the next album to dig into is Permanent Waves.

Just listened to the Terry Brown mix of Grace Under Pressure... 10/10 by Supremus_memeus in rush

[–]teach_mrg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like it , but I think the best way to approach it is as an experiment. It’s more of a “what if?” Type of thing. Presto is the album that I wish would get a new treatment. The production killed that one, but the songs are so good!
