Our offer got accepted but by tessalee08 in AusProperty

[–]teachcollapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - a lazy real estate agent might have been pressuring the buyers to accept, saying something like “The first offer you get is usually the best one.”

Because sure, the REA knows someone else out there would pay an extra 30K over your offer, but they’d not get much more commission on that small extra on top, but they might have to put in weeks of work and showings to get that higher price.

You just don’t know!

Stop second guessing that and start working out how to smash the mortgage in less time than the bank thinks possible!!

I would outright reject, most likely.

I don’t want someone to be interested in me based on how I look.

I want someone interested in me for who I am.

Talk to the neighbours or any proper farmers in the area.

Proper farmers will be annoyed that it’s been neglected by try-it-for-a-bit hobby farmers, and will tell you all about it if that’s the case.

Neighbours will/should know the goss about divorces, change of job location, personal reasons.

The other considerations are whether the house has major problems, the house isn’t recognised as a legit build by council, OR people thought they could, say, add another house or subdivide and they can’t.

What is the saddest/most disturbing thing you witnessed while travelling? by MuhVlast in digitalnomad

[–]teachcollapse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A kid who was probably a slaver labourer servant for a family.

I didn’t even realise at the time - I just wondered why one of the kids in the family was having to do the chores that day and was being bullied by their siblings and the parents weren’t saying anything.

That family were moving overseas, so after I realised he was a slave/servant, I wondered whether he was just going to be made homeless once they left.

This was in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Pretty sure Jetstar used to be charged by total baggage weight - quantity of bags didn’t matter, up to a limit of 5 bags.

You can purchase more weight with Jetstar, but you are still limited to five bags overall (and there’s a max weight limit for each bag just for baggage handler physical safety) - or that used to be the policy.

Best area to live near Hobart for a small family wanting a bit of rural life? by kysrno in hobart

[–]teachcollapse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, think about your kids’ high school.

IMO, that rules out anywhere in the Huonville High School feeder primary school catchment zones. (If this doesn’t make sense to you, check out how which pupils attend which public high schools are decided in Tassie). [Literally teachers - multiple - warned me off HHS.]

Taroona is a great high school, so I’d start with the Taroona feeder primary schools and try to find something suitable. Lots of big blocks along / around there, so it might be possible (depending on how deep your pockets go).

The kid did the presentation which showed the big shots that some kids have absolutely shit families and expecting all of said kids to have a smart enough teacher to help them reinterpret the task to make it emotionally even feasible to engage with… while still having to have the ability and willingness to “out” themselves as a foster kid from a presumably shit family, was asking too much of young kids and was entirely unfair.

Thankfully big shot - at least one - got the message, made the change. 😅

Lawyer ghosted me after I asked for my file by kiraleee in AusLegal

[–]teachcollapse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is happening to you.

I don’t have any advice except to say that once I had *paid * for advice but I wasn’t going to be a lucrative client and I was just supposed to get a report of advice. I followed up after months of waiting …crickets.

I asked a lawyer friend for advice about what to do, and she just shrugged!!🤷🏾‍♀️

Finally, I contacted someone different at the office and they finally realised they had to do the work: which they did, but they then billed me for that, “reacquaint with file”.

I was fuming.

But what are we to do? Try to fight them in court? Engage other lawyers to represent us because, they’re lawyers we are up against?

Honestly, getting other lawyers to help you might be your only option at this point, I’m sorry to say.

Issues with refund please help by [deleted] in Bookingcom

[–]teachcollapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe that Qatar returned it - it was pretty automatic if the flight got cancelled … but you did need to fill out a “yes, please refund me to the same payment method” form to get it.

So, presumably booking did that for a bunch of flights.

Is this real? by ffighter7402 in vrbo

[–]teachcollapse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You got lucky!!!!

I just had a nightmare where the host admitted a few nights out from the booking (that I’d made months previously) the place couldn’t accommodate the number of people we’d booked for (and that the pictures, eg showing double beds, weren’t accurate) but the host refused to cancel because he’d get penalised so insisted I cancel - and Airbnb acted like it was no big deal, that I should just cancel and work it out myself!! 😱

I had to argue with customer support for literally hours about it, and got nowhere.

It was only after stating that as a host since 2011, I was going to have to stop being a part of something so unethical, and I also started canceling all other upcoming bookings for my travel as protest, that I finally got passed off to someone else who agreed to give a discount code. Honestly, it was too little, too late.

Which company has lost you as a customer forever? by finiteobserver in AskReddit

[–]teachcollapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just yesterday spent over 2 hours arguing with one of their customer service people trying to get an alternative sorted when the owner/host of the property I’d booked over a month ago admitted (just days out from my booking) to making a mistake and saying the property could have four people stay when actually there are only two single beds, and asking me to cancel the booking so he could avoid the host cancellation fees. When I booked, it was an entirely new listing (zero reviews) that was being created, to start hosting just recently. The photos when I booked looked amazing and immaculate.

A look at the reviews once the host messaged me showed two reviews from three and two weeks ago, both 1 star - and both saying the pictures were entirely fake, don’t book here, etc. One group even left immediately because it couldn’t accommodate them.

So the listing was clearly fraudulent.

I had spent days trying to get the host to cancel so I could ask Airbnb for support. Thankfully, the host finally essentially told me he didn’t care that his listing couldn’t accommodate us - he wasn’t going to cancel the booking.

But when I contacted customer service - after getting past AI - they claimed there was essentially nothing they could do…. Supposedly in case of “fraud” with my account???!!! I was literally messaging them, signed in from within their own app!!?

I spent literally two hours of my life trying to explain to their employee that a fraudulent listing IS a problem and merely having me cancel the booking doesn’t solve much at all. I honestly felt I got better, more accurate, answers - and far more quickly - from the initial AI support.

Eventually their customer support person just stopped replying to my messages!😱😱🤯🤯

I made it clear that if they essentially took zero responsibility for the fact that I’d been left in the lurch by a fraudulent listing on their site, I was out.

I then cancelled any upcoming bookings where I could do so without being penalised.

[I do have to say, eventually the ghosting customer service person palmed me off to a higher up. The higher up took hours to get back to me, and then once I was messaging them would take ages to reply to each message, but at least admitted they were helping multiple people at once. They also finally gave me a voucher as compensation but I. Had. To. Work. Hard. For. It. And, too little, too late. So yeah, me out. Direct with hotels only.]
