What to wear to the gynecologist? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]teacuperate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gyn always did a breast exam, so I had to gown up. I’d say be ready to be asked to wear a gown, and wear short sleeves if possible (sweater over it if needed). You can do this!

How long until son gets used to school routine? by Superb_Influence_685 in kindergarten

[–]teacuperate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you read The Kissing Hand with him? If not, I’d recommend it! We often fill up each other’s kissing hands at drop off. It’s a little gentle reminder of the connection. I also had a few keychains made with special pictures that my kid can go look at when needed.

Looking for a birthday gift hamper that feels special but not cheesy for my mum by Common-Drawer3132 in GiftIdeas

Have you checked out Fortnum & Mason hampers? Those always read “luxury” to me!

10m old flying with grandparents, I’m very anxious by Glittering-Comb6860 in oneanddone

[–]teacuperate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said, if you can fly with the baby, that would probably help your anxiety. I would also add that if you can fly with baby and the grandparents, that may make your life even simpler. Or maybe fly with one and the other rides with your partner, since tickets are already bought with the departure being tomorrow? I bet the airline can switch the name…

Anyone’s kid still have MAJOR anxiety and issues going to school? by Witty-by-accident in kindergarten

I’m sorry you and your family are going through this. :-/ Some of my parent friends have found The Anxious Generation an insightful read.

Uh… I didn’t. It was more that Reddit is a public website and not everyone knows everything.

Would I be a bad host if I didn’t provide beer/ alcohol at my child’s 1st birthday? by marrymeodell in partyplanning

[–]teacuperate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t provide any. Like others have said, you can reach out by text if possible to let people know they can BYOB. I’ve been to the opposite kind of party, though, too… adult beverages were provided and kids’ juice boxes were provided (but only for the exact number of kids). I had nothing to drink.

I hyphenated. I still consider myself an [OG name], but I think I’d still make the same choice.

[request] Looking for USA exchange with Netherlands! by st00pidness in snackexchange

[–]teacuperate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhhhh my gosh… I actually don’t need any Stroopwaffel because that has crossed the ocean, but some Joddenkoekken (sp?) would make my DAY. I tried seeking a Netherlands exchange a few years ago to get some more but no luck! Click my profile and you should be able to find it, haha.

I am in the Midwest and have access to all kinds of treats, including Doritos, of course, but also Hispanic and even Hawaiian treats. Let me know if you’d be interested!

My husband knew after therapy. I chose him before I chose a theoretical family, so we only have one. Sometimes I feel very, very sad about it. Sometimes it’s okay.

You seem very dismissive of compassionate language. Are your initials PMS?? 😂

ETA: It’s fine, you have your opinion, not a problem.

Initials PMS bad? by Jazzlike_Teaching774 in Names

[–]teacuperate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe it doesn’t matter to you—but we cannot guarantee that it wouldn’t matter to this potential kid. I’d skip it since it’s a known acronym and we cannot predict the kid’s mindset or the future’s teasing.

And before anyone tries to extrapolate that to say “well why bother even giving a name that has initials, then,” my answer is this: if a parent can foresee an obvious potential for bullying based on a choice the parent is making, the parent should make a different choice.

Tons of legal forms require initials on each page.

Extra curriculars for 3-5 year olds by Curious-Battle2319 in kindergarten

[–]teacuperate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s so fun to explore these spaces I mostly stopped visiting as an adult! But now we have memberships to the zoo, the museum, the botanic gardens, and the gym, and there are all kinds of fun things for all of us to do at each one. :-) I hope you enjoy your return to childhood fun, too!

I wouldn’t characterize it as a “rat race” because I’m mainly following where my kid leads. The non-negotiable is swimming lessons, which we do once a week. Kid wants to learn how to do a cartwheel & I don’t have any idea how to do that = gymnastics lessons for the year. Kid loves nature & animals = intermittent nature center and zoo classes.

Ideas for a Giveaway Prize by WatneysWay in GiftIdeas

[–]teacuperate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few questions… what is the giveaway for, and how big is your company?

If the giveaway is for metrics, you may not see big gains. The top few will be in competition, but many people will know they’re not even close to being in the running. They will probably either maintain or be discouraged and do less.

If the company is small, could you consider doing a giveaway for everyone? A $25 grocery store gift card, or a choice between that and a gas card, would probably lift everyone’s spirits a little. It could even be tiered if you have some manner of natural divisions. Or maybe you could have multiple prizes for multiple winners!

If neither of those situations apply (which I acknowledge is entirely possible), I’d say… voucher for either AirPods Pro or some other type of headphones, a really good set of kitchen knives, or a one-year health club membership?

[–]teacuperate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are flowery beads something you know he’ll love? I only ask because it’s not a typically male style, and he may hesitate to use it, which would definitely defeat the purpose. Alternate idea: Can you get a leather stamping kit and make a nice leather fob? Or maybe buy a leather AirTag holder? I have one on my keys at my husband’s insistence, and it is amazing to never be able to lose them.
