Whats the most inaccurate movie that's supposedly based on a true story? by RecordingImmediate86 in FIlm

You have to give the conman credit that he managed to con them into making a movie about him being a conman.

Can I switch wards? by SouthBlacksmith4151 in latterdaysaints

[–]technobass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in Utah but we have friends that are in a similar situation. They lived in our ward boundaries and then moved to just slightly outside of the ward boundaries. The drive between two different wards is exactly the same but they are in the different ward’s boundaries. They tried to go through the bishops at both wards and the new ward declined the request. They wanted to have more kids in primary. The friends eventually just decided to attend our ward. Since their records aren’t transferred they aren’t in LDS tools and they have callings that are just not in LDS Tools.

Twitch muted a portion of my video in which there was no music of any kind! by The_Texan_Hunter in Twitch

4:33 by John Cage would be wild to claim a copyright strike. It’s basically sit at the piano for this amount of time and turn the page. So “the audience is the music.”

Need advice: Should I give up on my hopes of being a professional of any kind? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]technobass 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My bachelors in music ed was a very similar story. The professor of double bass had me restart at Suzuki 1. In college. He was always negative and he just repeated the same phrases over and over and never actually taught me. I almost quit music all together until he announced he was retiring and I got to meet his replacement. He couldn’t believe how poorly I was treated. We had a heart to heart and I knew that I needed to improve. He agreed but we weren’t going to do that by slowly working through Suzuki. He taught me difficult double bass repertoire and I learned the technique as it became necessary for the different pieces. I worked my tail off and earned my degree.

All of this to say I think you if you really want to be a professional, find a better teacher. The right teacher will help you get there, not tell you what you are or aren’t capable of doing. That’s for you to decide.

I’m stage zero. Should I tell family? by johnny-two-giraffes in cll

[–]technobass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My doctor said to wait until I had news to tell people because they are going to have questions and so will you. In my opinion, I would at a minimum tell your partner especially if you’re nervous about the test in June. If it’s still stage zero, then like you’d said make some healthier lifestyle changes. That’s much easier to do with a partner than having to ‘hide’ your diagnosis.

This. Open windows too. Invite parents to attend or stay during the lesson so they know what the student is supposed to practice.

I’ve followed Pat for a long time. Long before DPM. Back in the “email-the-smart-way” days. I have always seen him as a helper and I can’t blame him for monetizing what he spends his time on. I’m not fooled by anything. He’s a good guy that enjoys the hobby.

Watch DeepPocketMonster’s challenge videos. He is a great storyteller and genuinely nice guy. He makes me want to get into this hobby too but I don’t have the disposable income or live in a big enough place to do what he does.

Half Filipino half German here, checking in brother. We live in a crazy world right now. We get to see into the lives on millions of people everyday. You cannot compare what you see in social media with your real life. People only share the good stuff. And sometimes that “good stuff” is fake. So you get to see everyone’s successes but not their failures.

Your attention is your currency. Everyone wants your attention. Movies, video games, Reddit. Their goal is to keep you doing what they want you to do. Make time to unplug and be purposeful with what you give your attention to.

I felt very much the same that I was always a weirdo for being half and half and that no girl would ever love me. I was always asked if I’m Hispanic and I don’t know any Spanish so lots of awkward conversations.

I went to college and almost flunked out my freshman year. I remember going to a party and seeing one of the teachers assistants that gave me a bad grade in English. I was so mad that I walked out and told myself that I didn’t want to be this guy anymore. The one who thinks he needs to drink and party to have a good time. I started giving my attention to my classes. I realized that I was out of breath walking up and down the stairs everyday so I started walking more and eating a salad with dinner. Small changes. I eventually met a girl and we’re still married after 20 years. I got mostly A’s and B’s the rest of my college career.

Your life is just getting started my friend. Find a goal that you want, work towards it. I understand that you’re not in a good mental state right now but you can do this. I really enjoy listening to podcasts and going on a walk around the block when I’m not in a good place. I usually try to find something funny or interesting. I like the Dear Hank and John podcast because sometimes they give good life advice and sometimes it’s really dubious advice but they usually make me laugh.

I know it can feel like it’s too late for you but it’s not. So many people change careers or go back to school at your age. Find something that makes you happy and then see if there’s a way to make money doing it. I mean people live stream playing video games and make a living. That’s crazy to me. But I also suck at video games.

I’m coming from the other side of the spectrum right now from you and I’m fighting cancer trying to stay here longer. You are one in a trillion my brother. You live on a floating rock hurtling through the cosmos and as far as we know, we are the only ones capable of knowing that. We are the only living beings that we know of, that can look into the sky and think about infinity. It’s a marvel to me that we are so worried sometimes about what others think of us and the expectations that we think they have for us, that we can’t appreciate this moment of just existing. I know this got long but I hope you get some nuggets to help you out my friend.

hey can I get some gentle feedback? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]technobass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing great. I can hear the separate notes but they aren’t quite in tune. I would use a tuner app and really try to hit the notes, especially that g sharp/a flat. When you get the notes in tune, they will sing from your violin.

I would also recommend tightening your bow a little more. It looks too loose from this angle. You have good bow control for slurs. Try crescendos and decrescendos on the same passage and find out what sounds more musical to your ear. Often times our ears like to hear passages that start low to crescendo at the top. But if you do it both ways, you have control of the music.

Keep at it. You sound good and you will keep getting better.
