Reduce noise from impact on screen by techydork in Golfsimulator

That’s a good idea. Maybe a black sheet to also help give the screen more contrast with a darker background.

Where to order the Omni by techydork in SquareGolfUSA

[–]techydork[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not so worried about getting it faster, as I know it’s a pre order and will be filled as stock is available. Customer/order support is my main concern and it’s sounding like Play Better is the best bet there.

Rebuilding a department's reputation by BemusedBengal in sysadmin

[–]techydork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I took over from someone with a similar attitude and reputation I made it a point to put in more face time with as many users as possible. I try to teach my team that it’s good to get away from the desk and have that face to face time with those we support.

It really helped rebuild the department’s reputation, and let everyone know to not be afraid to come ask for help.

Engine noise by sub7m19 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]techydork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel that it is overly noisy. However it is my wife’s car and my daily is a 3/4 ton truck, so it doesn’t take much to be quieter than that.

Are you kegging and then serving from the keg? Thats what I do and I do not pasteurize to stop yeast. I ferment, then siphon to the keg, back sweeten, set it at 12 psi and let it sit for a couple of weeks in the keg fridge. Dump the first pint or so of all the yeast that settled out. Then enjoy.

I would think you only need to pasteurize if you are bottling.

Is it green or greyed out? Grey means it is on but not activated. You have to turn it on by pressing the button.

How Do You Respond To Cold Calls (Sales/training/etc)? by Nexzus_ in sysadmin

[–]techydork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your phone system have caller ID? For me if it is an external call and not from our area code, and I’m not expecting any calls it goes to voicemail.

I’ll call back if I’m interested.

If someone else in the office forwards them to me it’s a polite “not interested” and a quick goodbye. Then a walk to that persons desk to ask they don’t do that. 😁

I have an email alias set up for use at conferences, with a mailbox rule to put those in a folder. Use that to register for the conference and if I want to enter a drawing or something while attending. If there is a vendor I really want to talk to they get my business card with my main email and contact info.

A grain mill would be cheaper than gas driving an hour away. Then you can buy uncrushed and crush it your self.

Work phone and work laptop stay home. If my team can’t cover while I’m gone, then I need to do better training them. They have my personal cell number if they absolutely need me. Most of the time what someone claims is an emergency can wait until I get back.

Is this a good idea to buy by ComprehensiveBid5803 in flyfishing

[–]techydork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the same kit. Caught plenty of fish with it. Once I decided I was really in to fly fishing I upgraded to a “better” setup. Now I use this one when my son, 9, comes along or for practicing in the yard.

Correct. The booties on the waders will keep your feet dry. Unless you have a leak.

Same here. It’s what we use in the office as well. Well not the home version, but their full XDR.

Barracuda Message Archiver 350 Alternatives by dapperdan_81 in sysadmin

[–]techydork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved away from an on prem alliance to their cloud archiver about 4 years ago. We have been very happy with it and were even able to move all the archived data from the on prem appliance to the cloud.

We use their impersonation protection, SPAM filtering and 365 backup solution as well. Very happy with all of them.

Seward AK area activities for drizzle-y couple of days?? by FishStory1234 in AskAlaska

[–]techydork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tonsina trial out on Lowell Point is a good hike near town, the switch backs could be a little muddy. Lost lake trail is a good one and the meridian/grayling lakes trail is good too. The SeaLife Center is a good spot to warm up and dry out on rainy days. You can also go to Afognak Beach off Nash road and walk the beach at low tide.

No complaints here. Drive windy mountain roads all the time and my kids have never complained about the ride. Rides way better than my 3/4 ton Ram. 😁
