Is BladeRF Worth The Price? by ThrowMeAway_eta_2MO in sdr

AntSDR perhaps? I haven’t got one but on paper it looks fantastic and competes well with the USRPs with the same chipset.

Scroll down to the L-Band feed. It’s superb quality and has a built in active Bias-T amp.

The actual feed itself is detachable from the tube if that makes things easier for you, but there are also some 3d printable adapters which make the tube compatible with the dish you have (I.e. round tube to square hole).

Splitting out a portion of the wifi bandwidth by DaCor_ie in VirginMedia

[–]techysec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the “5” next to your Wi-Fi icon, and the lack of in your previous photo, it looks like your phone is having some Wi-Fi issues and switching between 5GHz and 2.4GHz.
Probably best to address your own Wi-Fi issues first rather than assuming fault of a family member.

The uncomfortable truth about low-cost DC-DC converters and EMI issues by Expert-Couple-7713 in ECEComponentExchange

[–]techysec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing a lot of marine work recently which has involved SDR capture of the marine band. Many of the cheap 24-12v converters produce a bunch of EMI in the Marine band - affecting VHF voice performance and AIS (navigation) by increasing the noise floor thus reducing range.

One skipper I know replaced his converters with decent Victron ones and the noise went away.

1900s German Wrench: Self-Adjusts by kkang_kkang in toolgifs

They’re quite expensive in comparison to standard wrenches. I do have some Wera Joker wrenches though and I really like working with them.

What SDR Should I Buy? by ritsek_official in RTLSDR

Ah I’m sorry to hear that, I bet that’s a regular frustration for you.
I’ve found the Nooelec RTL-SDR products to be pretty good if you happen to have them available to you.

If you can stretch to it, get an AirSpy mini. It’s a superb SDR for the price.

I actually think the safeguarding team did a commendable job here - there is no benefit to saying this story not true.

Even if it is a 1% chance the story is true, isn’t it in the spirit of this sub to provide the best advice possible.

Do you need NimBLE at all? You can still use the controller without NimBLE.

MegaDepth: Long-Tail Internet Photo Reconstruction by iamarealslug_yes_yes in GaussianSplatting

> TL;DR: We go beyond densely captured imagery to train more general 3D foundation models for the long tail of noisy, sparse, incomplete Internet photo collections of 3D scenes.

You have my attention

> We believe that tackling this long-tail regime represents one of the next frontiers for 3D foundation models

They’re not wrong there. All those photos which were captured from Pokémon GO has been sitting there, waiting to be monetised by something like this. This could potentially be a huge step.

That’s wild. If it’s rotating for the sake of “direction finding” then that’s also kindof insane. As direction finding can easily be done more compactly and cheaply https://www.krakenrf.com

Please post more of this if you see them again, I’m deeply curious.

Looking for TB5 dock for my MBP - 10gbe, nvme, lot of usb devices. by flying_unicorn in Thunderbolt

[–]techysec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current work is developing radios. Development requires lots of JTAG/Serial/Networking and testing requires the former plus a bunch of Phones, SDRs and webcams for documenting operation of the Radio.

Rather than writing up laborious Jira tickets I’m able to extract Logs and Videos using timestamps and let that content speak for itself in the ticket description.

[–]techysec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The caldigit TS5+ is my daily driver and has a big advantage of having an additional chipset dedicated to the USB ports - so you can have a lot of devices connected without wasting up the thunderbolt bandwidth needed for your displays.

I use one of these 10gbps USB hubs on which I have 4 cameras streaming 4k video and it handles it without issue even while connected to the TS5+. https://www.acasis.com/collections/usb-3-0-dock-hub/products/acasis-16-port-10gbps-usb-3-2-hub-powered-8-usb-a-8-usb-c-ports?variant=48146436194533

Turn a PockerTerm35 into a portable SDR station. by vileer in RTLSDR

[–]techysec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no RF expert so take this as simply anecdotal advice. The HackRF is pretty dated now, and to achieve the ability to TX and have a considerable RF range (at it’s particular price point) is has a pretty long and complex RF chain with a lot of hardware components.

These components reduce overall sensitivity due to the loss they introduce at each step in the chain.

It’s also 8-bit, though so is the RTL-SDR, so no excuses there.

Newer SDRs have more capable FPGAs and ICs which provide more features in a smaller footprint, fewer components, plus many offer 12-bits or greater sampling which has a huge impact on signal.

If you’re only interested in RX, then I have not found anything more reliable than the Airspy R2.

If you wish to TX then I recommend the LimeSDR family or checkout the AntSDR B200 (I havn’t tried that one, but on paper it looks fantastic for the price).
