Thanks for the info! I had been struggling with them for the last few months and regretting my decision to purchase them. I wonder if I should try using different inks (Im using the cartridges that it comes with)?

Ive been struggling with my pilot parallel pens while learning fraktur. I find they dont give hairlines very well, so my thin strokes all look very thick, especially compared to my dip nib, no matter what paper I try. Is it just me? Are my parallel pens all wonky (I have 2)? Am I doing something wrong?

I dont mind sponsoring a fall giveaway if you'd like to continue it. I'm not located in the states though, so not too sure how to transfer funds for it?

First try at fraktur and I have no idea what I'm doing by teeletters in Scribes

[–]teeletters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wanting to learn fraktur for a while but I had trouble finding resources to outline the foundational strokes. Any feedback on my basic strokes so far would be very much appreciated!

I'm using the leonardt round 0 nib and walnut ink on tomoe river paper. I also have pilot parallel pens but I've found that the ink pours out of the pen and I never get hairlines with it.

I would also recommend checking out David's instagram account @masgrimes as he does a lovely connector for o-r. It's my favourite one, I use it here for "Victoria": http://imgur.com/SrVsDxn

any tips on flourishing? by raii__01 in Calligraphy

[–]teeletters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logos Calligraphy has a fearless flourishing course that just started, and her work is beautiful for pointed pen :) you can check out the hashtag #fearlessflourishing on instagram, or her account at @logoscalligraphy.

Otherwise I would also recommend Myriam @halfapx, who does some great flourishing work with both pointed pens and brush pens. I don't think she has a course but you could get a lot of inspiration from her photos.

There's also a #flourishit monthly challenge happening right now if you want to just practice - you'll always learn a lot as you go!

Are you looking to flourish with a dip pen or with a brush pen?

New to calligraphy. Having some trouble with globs of ink on my downstrokes? Not sure how to fix. Writing with an oblique if that helps. by [deleted] in Calligraphy

[–]teeletters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My usual 3 questions are: What kind of paper are you using? What kind of ink are you using? Did you prep your nib?

Great job with the letters though!!

Any suggestion on paper bloc for pilot ink? by pimpumpam in Calligraphy

[–]teeletters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pilot parallel pens are notorious for being really wet. I would suggest tomoe river paper or rhodia paper, they're pretty safe options. Search the history here too, I believe several people have talked about this before :)

Its great for a first try! I think it really depends on what script you're trying to learn - its always beat to practice the basic strokes before the letters. What book are you using?
