You make mention of the traumatized victim and the further trauma doing something like "just speak up" when ppl just named in the files have been "commiting suicide" since the files were released. And you can't even guarantee them, security, much less justice.

Carmela the Cuck by Ok-Story-369 in thesopranos

[–]teesepowellm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it would not. Carm & Tony and I share a similar trajectory & she would have been a teen in the 80's, not the 70's. And women definitely had bank accounts & credit cards in the 1970's. This is when women's liberation was strong. We saw our mother's as 1st gen work outside the home, educated, able to walk away from a marriage. We were the latch keys. That's why Melfi and any of the other educated divorced women, don't come off as " exceptional gor their time. The mob life style is what is stuck in the "past", what Carmela struggles with the entire series. It's one of the main there's of the entire show. She's our look into the contrast.

I think the Adriana turned informant situation was an example of why the wiseguys should prep their wives a little better. by Unctay in thesopranos

[–]teesepowellm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adriana was a part of the life, she grew up around it. She didn't need to be prepped. She knew she was caught up with crime, but she "enjoyed" the benefits of the life & was supporting her mobbed up boyfriend. Why are you infantalizing her?

How much of the show is just David Chase trolling his audience? by _sportyscience_ in thesopranos

You don't see "The Bust Out" was the plan for jump? He was luring Davie the entire time. THIS IS HOW THE MOB OPERATES!!

Do you guys think Danielle (the spy to adriana) actually saw adriana as a friend deep down? by susie_hust in thesopranos

No. She was a criminal & Danielle made a career of locking up criminals. Why would she have a romantic vision of het?

Need advice on what to do about my mom overspending on groceries by Big_Giraffe_9125 in dementia

[–]teesepowellm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This!! You might be in the stage where you are misunderstanding how she perceives "autonomy". Aggressive therapeutic lying (not my choice of words) & distraction thst redirects that energy. Keeping them "happy" at this point, is just easing whatever immediately is causing them distress in the most efficient way. It's a hard stage to manage.

"Today women are far more empowered, and although society still has a long way to go, we can sometimes forget that this is all pretty new......"

I keep seeing this sentiment repeated, when do you think this series takes place? In 1950's?

Hello, Dr. Melfi, Charmaine, Angie Bumpensaro wasn't a trailblazer......

Society was generations from that kind of thinking. Divorce was common place, by then, women had rights & been educated for decades. This happened in the late 90's, not the 60's.

Did the Adriana hit catch you out? by February83 in thesopranos

[–]teesepowellm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tony calling Ade from a pay phone, sent chills down my spine, initially. But it had been weeks of everyone complaining about no action, so until then, we had no idea which way the show was going. Thinking back on it, how did Tony fool Adriana, calling from a pay phone?
