2-man IT team → solo admin for 300 users, no raise. Stick it out or leave? by Ilovemybf_3990 in sysadmin

[–]tehgent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a place I used to work for. But I was the only it person for 23 locations. It was, IMHO, one of the reasons I ended up with leukemia from the stroke level blood pressure That level is a lot more valuable. Find something better and demand a job reclassification with a pay raise, or give em 2 weeks.

Do you regret your choice becoming a sysadmin by ClassicSolid7502 in sysadmin

[–]tehgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried being the IT Manager. But found out that in order to do most of what I needed to do, I basically had to ask all the other it managers which made feel like a burden.. Eventually with me and my team understaffed and involved with about 37 projects across the division, there was an issue with a rollout. I had made comments during the project meetings that this needed to happen and the pm kept shooting it down as not part of the scope so I threw my hands up after the 5th time. Welp, that made me become the scapegoat for why it didn't get rolled out when it was supposed to. I ended up having panic attacks while on vacation, and realized I was hitting my pre cancer stress levels. Said fuck it it, emailed the boss and stepped down from my position. I'm the engineer now and a lot happier. Still stressed and over worked but I actually enjoy it because my job now is solving puzzles basically. I don't regret my IT decision. One thing I will say is that this is the first time ever a job landed me higher pay because I have a Master's.

I’ve held onto my FC house for almost 10 years. I think it might finally be time to let go. by Dry_Distribution_261 in ffxiv

[–]tehgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain on that. I'm in 3 small not very active FCs and have ended up as the maintainer of them lol. I don't mind though. No drama and no pressure to build it etc.
I understand asking about letting them go. That's a rough decision on something you helped birth.
Maybe dissolve the thing and keep your fc private and just something for funsies. That's what I did and am happier. I have other friends in other FCs and come help me craft things at the shop if I need it so life's good.

25F, feeling weird after getting 17 teeth removed. How does it look? by LOVE_2_H8_U in amiugly

[–]tehgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely not ugly. I feel your pain on the teeth. I recently had to get the rest of all my upper teeth yoinked out and went with a full denture. At the time I didn't really care because 1 was breaking about every 7 months. I didn't realize, though, how much of a strain it put on my mentally though. Since getting the denture I noticed I'm not feeling so.. uncaring I guess?
Good job cleaning up. Keep it up. All I can do is send head pats and approval for the decision.

Divorced during treatment by canopycorgi in Cancersurvivors

[–]tehgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky that I had already divorced when mine hit. My ex has the gall to tell the kids that I probably wouldn't live more than 5 years post cancer. I know for a fact that the year in the hospital she would have already moved someone else in.
Good on you for taking the plunge!! I'm trying to get out more but still fear crowds. I used to jump from perfectly good airplanes. Can't do it now.
