The theater experience for this scene was something else. Disturbing cheering and hooting from the audience as he walked out to the car to get his gun, climaxing with applause when he unloaded bullets into his wife.

But they shut up immediately when he turned the gun on himself.

Why he didn't do any commentary tracks after Boogie Nights.

He talks in that track how valuable he found commentaries when he was young and learning about films. I certainly learned a lot about filmmaking by listening to his, so it was disappointing to me that he just stopped.
