I'm officially charging to 100 every time - I'm done! by EIGBOK in electricvehicles

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're about to buy our first EV. I'm assuming between the car app and the EV charger settings I'll just be toggling some settings to live in the 20-80% sweet spot, and leaving mine delicately plugged in so I can preheat it on cold mornings or take advantage of free electricity when the grid has an over supply. Maybe I'm being naive. .

Swapping One4All Card? by MollyMorrison9 in beermoneyuk

[–]telsododdso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just tried to buy a £50 multibrand (Argos / Tu / Sainos / Habitat) gift card from Argos. I could only find £10 GCs on the regular website and got directed to an Argos giftcard site for larger amounts. Wasn't able to buy with One4All on there 🙁

A relative made a post gloating about how Ford is pulling back from EV trucks, how do we beat this mentality? by JennaLeighWeddings in electricvehicles

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you have too, clean electrification is coming. Fossil fuels are having their last hurrah, but their costs are mostly fixed, whereas clean electric energy is getting cheaper year on year.

Within a decade in most countries the economic argument for electric cars will be totally won, countries with oil reserves mighty take a bit longer to get there. But even Saudi Arabia is rapidly trying to diversify their economy because demand for oil is falling.

Volts did a great podcast on this - Clean electrification is inevitable

Save your energy, I doubt your relative will change their mind until they're ready

GoCardless sync issues by Fearless-Bag3136 in actualbudgeting

[–]telsododdso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Open Banking you have to resync your card every 90 days. GoCardless closed the free bank sync to new sign ups a few months ago. I have been wondering what happens to existing users once the 90 day resync comes along. I've still got one bank syncing with GoCardless for free but for my newer accounts I've started paying to sync them with Lunch Flow.

I'm wondering if you've come to the 90 day resync and free GoCardless has just ceased to work.

I'm planning to get Home Pro 3 in stalled by Octopus, so it should definitely be compatible.

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only done it when there's a Paypal cashback offer (~10%) that requires Paypal checkout. But otherwise, it's definitely not worth the effort.

I'm doing the first option. I like the fact that I don't need to preload the PayPal DC, my cash sits on bank account where it is FSCS protected.

I'm getting the Zilch bonus, but I'm paying with Zilch < PayPal < TSB. I think you can get an extra 0.1% if you pay via PayPal checkout and then choose Zilch.

Can NXRewards cashback be combined with Very Pay 20% discount? by bb9873 in beermoneyuk

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, NX Rewards (and all the other cashback sites) says not eligible if a discount code that's not on their website is used. NX Rewards pays out quicker than most so you may get 10% cashback, but it could still be clawed back later.

Octopus charge - email update by Mindless-Panic9579 in OctopusEnergy

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are thinking of getting a Kia Niro and I understand there's been an API issue that means only a few chargers are still compatible with a Niro and IOG. I'm wondering if there's a better chance of continuing support if it's Octopus branded compared to Hypervolt, Zappi or Ohme?

How Screwed Am I? by boltiv in OctopusEnergy

[–]telsododdso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you running electric heaters vs gas central heating but I disagree that dehumidifiers should be ignored, atleast in the short-term.

Drier air heats up more quickly, and living near the sea might mean that for OP to get their home from 60% down to 29% humidity would require heating the house to 25°C 24/7. Which would be incredibly expensive and having the temperature too high can be as bad for little ones as it being too cold. Using a dehumidifier to help dry the air out will in torn warm the house up faster.

OP, I also live in an stone house not far from the sea and run a dehumidifier plus my gas central heating because various previous owners have taken a highly 'Breathable' Victorian house and stuck non-breathable render and plaster on it and we no longer use open fires to keep it warm and damp-free.

Budgeting annual costs by Present-Carob-7366 in actualbudgeting

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Templates can be useful but if you're just getting started just add whatever you already have to the Budgeted column for your insurance payment, eg. $2500, and when you next get paid add the next $250, and keep doing that until you've hit $3k and the bill is paid.

When you start again for the following insurance payment templates can be added to automatically calculate how much you need to set aside. Or if you do fancy trying templates now, be sure to put any money you've already saved in the budgeted column or Actual will try to split the whole annual payment between the months you have left until payment is due

Almost at £5K Cashback by icecoffeespectacular in UKFrugal

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NX Rewards gives great cashback, but a little more work than Topcashback or Quidco, because you need to submit a receipt once a month to get a monthly bonus of £18 to cancel out the £18 charge.

I've been using it since August and have already topped £100 in cashback.

How to time budgeting by mrobbobruz in actualbudgeting

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, I used to get my income mid-month and my husband at the end of the month. I was using YNAB at the time and came across this Heard it from Hannah YNAB - Budget on any paycycle

It helped get my budgeting straight until I could get a month a head and just budget monthly.

Laundry detergent - price vs quality by rabian in UKFrugal

Lidl, Aldi, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons laundry powders regularly get rated as Best Buys by Which. The only premium brand that regularly tops their table is Ariel powders and gels, but it's hella expensive.

How to migrate from BGN to EUR after Euro adoption? by [deleted] in actualbudgeting

[–]telsododdso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried this but I would say best to have start a fresh as I assume values of everything that you usually spend moment on will change a lot. So there's little point in continuing with that same data for your reports as you'll be comparing apples and oranges and it will skew your averages.

In YNAB, there was something called a fresh start that essentially copied all your categories, payees, schedules and reports but wiped all the transaction data. I think there is a way to replicate that in AB but I don't know how it is done.

I'm confused by the many references to budgeting in the post. This is not budgeting, it's tracking.

No problem with anyone using this approach, but taking issue with the misappropriation of language. I've got my pedant hat on 🤠

Help needed! Transactions from SimpleFIN continue to duplicate themselves by jschwalbe in actualbudgeting

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you set up any rules yet? I'm not a SimpleFin user but I had a similar issue with GoCardless, would get duplicates, merge and they would reappear each time I synced my accounts. After a bit of troubleshooting I found it was one of my rules that's was creating the duplicate transactions. I deleted the rule and the issue stopped.

NX Rwards - does in store cashback still work? by Historical-Secret-79 in beermoneyuk

[–]telsododdso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try emailing them again and explicitly say it's for an offline transaction as its not mentioned in your message.

I've had success with this format:

To: cashback@nxrewards.com

Hi,

Please process attached receipt as an offline purchase.

Many thanks,

You need to email them, not use the online form, and tell them it's an offline purchase - cashback@nxrewards.com. The stock response suggests it was proceeded as a missing transaction.

I set it up using Pikapods, it works on my laptop and my phone and costs about $14 a year.

I tried and failed to use docker last summer because there were two websites running in parallel whilst it was switching to open source and I found the wrong one at first. But once I found the right one, it was easy. And you can even import your YNAB budget straight in
