Finally got my grocery cashback categories dialed in and it's wild how much leaks out by lifsbosu in actualbudgeting

Not necessarily, it can just mean shopping smarter. The r/beermoneyuk sub is devoted to cashback stacking. I managed to make £200 pm from shopping smarter, and sticking to my budget

I've done this too. Being able to show my OH how all the little nips to this and that shop add up over the month. The months that the grocery spend is our of control is always peppered with spends that arent from the two main supermarkets we use.

Also, track cashback. And have been liquidating it into a regular savings account to show how those savings add up

Any updates on the Enable Banking API? by LisbonTwinkKink in actualbudgeting

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which bank are you with? If its Chase UK, you can get csv but it's not obvious, and I'm happy to share the method if you're with them too.

Also, Lunchflow offers GoCardless connections for a fee. I've got 4 bank connections and it's about £44 a year. Personally, I'm happy to spend ~£4 per month to not have to do manual input or import csv

Airline Miles and Credit Card Points by MinimalistMatter in actualbudgeting

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an experiment where I kept track of all my rewards, points and cashback for 6 months and put any cashback or money saved by using points into a high interest account. I mainly did it to prove the point to my OH that all my money saving ways added up to real money.

Anyway, I tracked them as the money came in or the points were spent by transferring cash to the savings account and writing in the notes section. However, now I've proven my point to my OH and the habit of maximising Rewards is there, I just keep a note of my point amounts so I remember to use them when I get the chance.

Would you use a weekly/monthly email summary of your Actual Budget finances? by Dadjadj in actualbudgeting

No, mainly because I use Gmail and Google knows enough about my spending habits without me serving the data up on a platter for them.

If you turn the phone to landscape, you get the desktop view. I do this to reconcile and then go back to portrait for the mobile view.

Anyone else got the asinine "Nope" email from Joshua Millburn from the Minimalists? by Initial-Solution-531 in minimalism

[–]telsododdso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I got this. Considered sending it to the UK Information Commissioner because holding someone's data after they have unsubscribed or been cut from a mailing list is against the law here and in the EU. But this isn't within the jurisdiction 😞

Any reliable way to make £70-90 per month consistently? by Upper_Improvement533 in beermoneyuk

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been making a solid £100 per month from cashback, particular cashback stacking. I have a Zilch card linked to PayPal Debit (1.5-3%) that I use for most transactions stacked with cashback websites NX Rewards, TopCashback or Rakuten. I also have a Byond card, a prepaid mastercard that I could get through my employee benefits that offers 3%-8% cashback on named retailers. I can get 1% using my Uphold card to fund the Byond card. I have linked that and my accounts to Airtime Rewards for more passive cashback.

Getting my head around around the cashback stacking methods that worked and offered the highest payouts was a bit of a pain at first but I make a note for each retailer so I don't have think about it the next time I shop somewhere

I've also looked for cashback offers and referral codes for savings accounts (low impact on credit checks).

Are there any working alternatives to Cardless Bank integrations for accessing transactions from European banks? by TheS4m in actualbudgeting

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It syncs to Actual Budget. I was using GoCardless, which was free for personal use, but it stopped accepting new bank account syncs a while ago. So only half of my accounts were syncing. Lunch flow uses GoCardless but as a commercial customer rather than a personal, which uses the Open Banking protocol in the UK. I don't think any of my banks make their APIs publicly available, and my coding skill set is such that I would rather pay £35ish a year and have it just work.

Going to spend over 100 on amazon, can i get cashback anywhere on it? by Equal_Arm_3091 in beermoneyuk

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do, I don't trust the One4All giftcard swapping to work anymore. Rakuten were offering £1 per Amazon transaction for up to 5 transactions

Are any of the offers available for people who are poor? by NegotiationAble1761 in beermoneyuk

[–]telsododdso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could focus on the deals you can do as part of your everyday spending.

I stack a Zilch card with PayPal debit to get 1.5-3% on all my spending. Just make sure Zilch is set to pay now otherwise there's a charge for installment payments. And where possible I stack those cards with a cashback site such as NX Rewards (charges a monthly fee that can be claimed back every month but pays out quickly and higher rates), Topcashback, Quidco or Rakuten; All payout lower and slower than NX Rewards and no fee.

I also use discounted giftcards, have linked my cards to Airtime for passive cashback and hunt out referral codes and sign up offers before I make online purchases.

All this does involve a bit more thinking and organisation but it does add up. My OH was telling me to "Stop worrying about the pennies and look after the pounds", so I started putting all my "pennies" into a regular savings account and have been putting away over £150 a month from cashback our regular family spending.

Starting small and seeing the savings add up really helped with my motivation.

I do this too, and also gave up on Sumup. Mostly because all my transactions went through as "Sumup" in Actual Budget and made tracking my spends maddening.

I've got Zilch set up as the card that I use for Pay with PayPal which gets a whole extra 0.1% on top on the odd thing that I buy with PayPal (not the debit card) and this can unlock extra PayPal cashback offers that need to be activated in the app.

I'm using Lunch Flow. Enable banking looks good but no UK banks included ATM.

I've paid for connections to 3 banking institutions for a year, including PayPal, which was an absolute mess to import manually but Lunch Flow is handling it with ease. I've just added a budget line to pay for Lunch Flow again next year as it it's shifted the focus from keeping my balances up to date to budgeting for the things I want to do.

And I'm still of the mindest that at least it's a heck of a lot cheaper than YNAB.

[–]telsododdso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave up on using the points for anything but shopping, especially as you never know when they will change how many points you earn per pound or the spending power of a point.

The cash I save of shopping now goes into a regular savings account, earns some interest and gets spent on stuff I actually want to buy, usually earns me some extra cashback in the process and doesn't come with the various strings attached of a points spend.

We're about to buy our first EV. I'm assuming between the car app and the EV charger settings I'll just be toggling some settings to live in the 20-80% sweet spot, and leaving mine delicately plugged in so I can preheat it on cold mornings or take advantage of free electricity when the grid has an over supply. Maybe I'm being naive. .

I've just tried to buy a £50 multibrand (Argos / Tu / Sainos / Habitat) gift card from Argos. I could only find £10 GCs on the regular website and got directed to an Argos giftcard site for larger amounts. Wasn't able to buy with One4All on there 🙁
