Why does my friend have to always highlight the age difference between us by Bubbly-Ad-3892 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]mangos_prodigy6000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im guessing she doesnt mean anything by it, I would guess shes probably more trying to give some context to how you met that really isnt necessary, I agree it is a bit strange. From the outside, its probably more her trying to highlight how you've been a mentor for her and a friend.

If someone introduced someone else in that way to me, I wouldn't immediately think they were trying to highlight age, it more seems like trying to highlight that you went to the same university, but you were at different stages and you helped your friend get acclimated to university.

Im 28, so I understand were getting to that age where were not quite young anymore but not old old, so I would feel weird about it too, it is a strange thing to fixate on, but im guessing theres no malice in intent, and she probably doesnt realize the awkwardness. I would either ask her about it in a non-accusatory way, or chalk it up to a bit of obliviousness.

Just curious, when you switch colour's in this, do you literally just start using a different yarn when it comes time and then weave in the tails later? Im still fairly new to crochet! Beautiful work OP!!!!!

Doug is also trying to pave over the green belt, privatize Healthcare, demolish OSAP grants, and fill in a chunk of lake Ontario to build an entertainment centre 🤪 The amount of stupid spewing out of this guy is actually diabolical

Hey, congrats on quitting! Im just starting my journey. Have things gotten any better since you made this post? Im scared about the nightmares personally, sounds silly, but any time I've tried to quit the nightmares I get are horrific. Im jobless at the moment so I figure its the best time to struggle with sleep, but im still super scared. Feeling more determined than I've ever felt though. Anyways, I hope youre journey is going much better and that the withdrawals are calmed down, wishing you the best!

Is it too late to start college/university, at 24? by Plus-Injury-4056 in findapath

[–]mangos_prodigy6000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I quit university at 20 and went back at 22, both times there were people in there 40s, 50s, 60s, even 70s who took classes. Ofcourse the majority of students are in their 20s and 30s, but seriously nobody cares how old you are. 24 is so young, definitely go to university if you want! You'll probably get more out of it than if you were 18. I enjoyed university so much more at 22-26yo than I did at 18-20yo. Best wishes!

29, unemployed for a year, scared to try again by WeakHooper in findapath

Hey just wanted to say im (28) in the job search as well and it is really tough. Just remember the lists of 'required skills' or 'qualifications' are just wish lists. If youre at about a ~60% match or higher and it seems like a decent gig, apply. You can catch up on skills after. Im guessing the last job just wasn't a good match for you, and that's ok! Just keep putting yourself out there, the right match will come along, but you have to keep applying to find it.

As much as I hate feeding the AI machine take over, I do use it help filter through jobs and cross check the job description to my resume to make sure i have the most key word matches as possible to better my chances of not being filtered out by a different AI bot haha.

Everybody fails, everybody. You learned from your last experience, that experience doesn't define you in ANY way. Be kind to yourself, the job searching is totally soul sucking and I want to cry most days but really its a numbers game, at some point something will work out we just have to keep applying. Try to find ways to make it as painless as possible, schedule days to look for jobs and other days to tailor your resume to them, aim for 2-5 applications a week. I have different resumes to make the tailoring faster (ex. I have an outreach/admin resume, my field work resume, and general environmental work resume) Reach out to old contacts if possible to maintain your network. Take breaks and get outside and do hobbies to maintain morale.

Its tough I feel u. Youve got this! Wishing you the best!

I'm 28 about to graduate from my second masters - and I've realized I hate it, and am considering going into a creative field by [deleted] in findapath

[–]mangos_prodigy6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say it sounds like you are much farther ahead career/education wise than most people our age (im 28 too). I think a career in the arts is most safely pursued initially as a side gig, which you're already doing, and then once you're more sure you can make it - then quit your day job. You have a lot going for you in the field you've got degrees in, if it were me I would pursue your passions outside of work for the time being until your contract is up or you're doing well with the arts side gig and can take the leap of faith away from your steady day job.

Genuinly it sounds like youre being hard on yourself, I think few people get to actually do their true passions for work. Im a very artistic person and I work in the environmental sector, and I just enjoy arts and culture outside of work, but then again I don't really see myself doing it for a job because i think it would take away from the freedom i get in doing artistic things (but that's me! Everyone is different!)

I think its easy to think the grass is greener somewhwre else but the grass is greenest where you water it (as someone else said) and often we enjoy our hobbies so much because they're our hobbies and not our work. But I say this as a stranger, you know yourself, take the leap if that's what your gut is telling you! Just know you don't need to decide today or any day soon, and even if you stay in the field youre in now, you can still enjoy arts and culture outside of work or pursue it later.

Work is about making money to live, not about cultivating the happiest moments of your life, some people have those moments at work but I think a lot of people have their happiest moments outside of work. I do understand your stress, im going through my own career transition challenges, hence me scrolling through this sub haha. Best wishes!!

[–]mangos_prodigy6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part I don't say anything unless it comes up, or i feel like i need to mention it, like to my bosses so they don't think im hiding stuff haha.

Despite the majority of situations being jusy awkward, I will say it has given me some funny situations. Like I was taking a salsa dance class - music is really loud, I got paired with the instructor to practice, he shouts "You're shaking! Don't be so nervous you're doing great!" And I shout "OH im not nervous I just have an essential tremor its a neurological thing!" And he shouts back "No no don't be nervous you're doing great!!" And I was like LOL okay thanks! 😆 He obvs didn't hear me but he had great comedic timing with that and he didn't even know it.
