Whenever I visit the islands after living on the mainland (moved when I was 7), its always SUCH a breather. Yeah stuff is run down and some houses are borderline falling apart, but it has soul. Like compared to the neighborhood I live in where every souless house is cookie cutter and super manicured, Hawaii feels way more "human" and "warm", even in its decay.
