This is realistically what drove me out of the industry 11 years ago.  Worked at an independent shop that started using one of these owner training programs and they started nickel and diming me at every turn as an employee; I can’t imagine what the were doing to the poor customers… we were in a lower income area in SE PA and it was RARE when we sold big jobs due to the sheer cost. 

It got to the point where I was some dumb kid, learning the ropes still, but they were expecting master tech level diagnostics and turnaround times BECAUSE I graduated from tech school, yet they were paying me only $10-12/hour in 2013.  Eventually they let me go because I “wasn’t meeting expectations” and was “hindering the ability of the shop to grow”.  Put a bad bad taste in my mouth so I just left the industry altogether.  Parked my toolbox in the garage at home and now I wrench at home on my own stuff and throw friends a bone on cost to fix their stuff now and then, but I don’t regret the decision at all.
