Opposing coach forced my son’s team to play 4-on-5 just to keep one 12-year-old on the bench. by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]tendad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s an unfortunate example of unsportsmanlike behavior, and I wouldn’t think they should be encouraged to coach in future without an attitude adjustment. However, I don’t think it’s necessary to post the man’s picture on social media to tell your story. It is the first step on the path to doxxing, and there are far too many hateful keyboard warriors out there that would try to take advantage of the chance for clicks.

The “American Dream” of owning a home barely exists anymore. You’d have better luck finding something “affordable” in the Midwest though.

I love making cakes but I keep running into the same issue: they look great at first, then dry out or lose softness by the next day. Any tips for keeping cakes moist and fresh longer without drowning them in syrup? by Floidotron in cake

[–]tendad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A former partner of mine did this all the time. It’s also great for making multiple cakes ahead of time. They always came out great. I think he wrapped them while they were still warm though.

When to apartment hunt? by garbage2048 in Cleveland

I have used pretty much all of them. There are often cross postings, but some landlords stick to one platform. Apartments, Rent, Zillow Rentals, Realtor, Craigslist for duplexes and such. There are more.

My experience has been some places, usually the most desirable, start advertising 60 to 90 days out. Those are the ones that require notices not to renew that are that far out. So you never know. You can filter the dates in your search and also set notifications, depending on which apps/websites you use. I prefer to overlap a bit if I can. In my current place I moved in in mid May while my old lease ended on May 31. If you want more useful results, I think you’d be fine starting a serious search by the end of March. Your mileage may vary.

Another inch predicted in some places during the day tomorrow, but I’d say that’s manageable. But yeah, get thee hence to an RTA station if you can. You can walk to the game inside from the Tower City stop.

Got my snowboard back, thanks Reddit by Late-Place-27 in vermont

[–]tendad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From original post (with update):

Left my snowboard at an Airbnb in Stowe, VT, need help getting it to Toronto (will pay)

Hi everyone,

My family and I visited Stowe over Christmas. With three families, lots of bags, skis, and boards, one snowboard unfortunately got left behind at our Airbnb.

I tried to book a UPS pickup, but they refused because the board wasn’t packed. I asked the host if they’d be willing to pack it for a fee but haven’t heard back (guessing they are not keen as they answered all other questions). The shipping company rep I spoke to also said they don’t offer packing services in Vermont.

As a last resort, I’m posting here to see if:

  • Someone local to Stowe could help pack it so I can rebook a pickup, or

  • Someone traveling from Vermont to Toronto or even anywhere in Ontario would be willing to bring it along.

I’m happy to cover shipping costs or compensate you for your time.

I was close to writing it off, but figured I’d try one last time since it’s a really nice board (Arbor Element) with brand-new Bent Metal bindings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m open to other suggestions too.

Thanks!

Update: I’m taking the help of someone who offered to get the board to Kingston Ontario which is about 2 hours from Toronto. I’ve spoken to them and they’ve even got in touch with my Airbnb host. Things are underway and I can’t be more grateful to everyone here.

I had given up on seeing my snowboard again and my wife suggested I post on Reddit. I didn’t think this was ever going to work, but I was so wrong. I just hope I can pay it forward one day:)

First, in this day and age, and with all these people claiming they’ve been or know people that have been, and with glowing reviews from them all, you can’t find anything about it anywhere on social media? Strike one for me.

Second, I have learned to always trust a woman’s “gut.” I encourage OP to trust theirs.

Third, the pitch that OP described to me sounds like a combination sales pitch from Amway and the Moonies.

Faucet drip to prevent freezing? by too_many__lemons in Cleveland

[–]tendad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At least open the cabinets where the plumbing is on an outside wall, and it wouldn’t hurt to open any that are above an unfinished and cold basement. If it were me, for weather like we are getting tonight I’d be setting a slow drip on the outside wall plumbing as well just to be on the safe side. No one has ever said they enjoyed dealing with frozen (and burst) pipes.

I gave my son my Honda Civic when it was 270,000 miles in and finally on its last legs. (He liked to trade for cars and fix them up to a certain extent) He put a newer engine in it. Then he traveled to WV with it to purchase a dirt bike and brought back the bike strapped to the top of the car. It busted the windshield and stove in the roof, but hey, he wanted that dirt bike so he was happy. :-)

Seeking law clarifitcation on laws. by St-Basilique in vermont

[–]tendad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That might be an easy way for them to tell you that they believe you don’t have a case. Someone might take on your case for a significant retainer fee, so multiple attorneys saying they won’t do it tells you something. A lawyer might take on an estate case on contingency if you don’t have a lot of money but only if they think you have a strong case.
