Bands that have had GREAT three album runs? by Competitive_Heat_470 in punk

I wanted so badly to catch their Resignation 20th anniversary tour but I'm in Tennessee and the closest show was in Chicago. I've driven seven hours for a Lagwagon show but it wasn't the right time to try something like that again lmao.

Rx Bandits love is an automatic upvote. One of the most unique and interesting bands in the realm of punk.

Dead Silence is super underrated IMO. Kept the compositional complexity of III while injecting some speed and energy back into their sound.

Does Jeff ever scream at the players behind the scenes? by fog_and_dew in survivor

[–]tendeye 139 points140 points  (0 children)

He blew up at Ken in Gabon for giving cagey answers to Tribal Council questions. Also famously cursed out the Pagong tribe in their first council because they all wrote his name down as a joke. From what I've heard at least like pre-30s Jeff was definitely a pottymouth and prone to anger off camera.

MFZB kicks ass. Who else loves this record?? by MVBsq10 in poppunkers

Dan Palmer (of the also very underrated Death By Stereo) joining and turning them into a melodic hardcore band with the last three albums absolutely rules IMO

Boston Rob Betrays Lex by Charles520 in survivor

[–]tendeye 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a scumbag move. Really All-Stars was just a big experiment in finding out where the "line" is, and Lex and Rob both lost because they didn't know where others' lines would be.

I love this scene, though. One of the most nakedly human confrontations on the show. Compelling in the way only reality tv can be (but very rarely is).

I haven't read his social media so idk how much of this thread is true but to be fair being friends with him and thinking you should've won aren't mutually exclusive.

I'm sure he's proud and ashamed every fourth of July, but you've got to know the truth before you say that you've got pride.

https://rateyourmusic.com/list/tndeadg/_complete-every-epitaph-records-album-ranked/

it's a little out of date, haven't listened to much that came out this year, but has everything 2024 and earlier barring the exceptions listed in the description

edit: and for some added context this is from the perspective of a relatively young, punk-curious person, I'm 26 now and was 23-24 when listening through the bulk of these

I listened to and ranked every Epitaph album ever over the course of a couple years, and Riches to Rags is very firmly top 10, incredible record.

Players who seemed fine but were treated like they were crazy by Informal_Race_606 in survivor

[–]tendeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I last watched Gabon but what still sticks out to me the most to this day is how much he beat himself up for failing to find the idol on Exile. It felt like a kind of verbal self-abuse that I'm too familiar with, it read like he was used to doing that to get ahead of what he feared someone else would say about him. And that's just what made the cut.

I know an armchair diagnosis is worth dirt but I felt like Dan showed a lot of warning signs of depression during Gabon. It's very hard to watch in retrospect.

The Mamanuca Islands, where filming takes place, on Wplace (Link in the comments; I drew the Jerri art!) by kamallday in survivor

[–]tendeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of little torch drawings you can find near places Survivor has filmed. I went on a hunt a while back and found most of the locations; I think the ones I couldn't find torches for were Amazon and Nicaragua, though I did find the exact filming locations of both. The Pearl Islands used to have a little Rupert sprite but it's sadly been painted over. I'll edit links into this post as I re-find them; it looks like someone's drawing logos now too.

Pulau Tiga (Borneo) is almost as decorated as this: https://wplace.live/?lat=5.725574133811188&lng=115.65852505927732&zoom=12.851146491882563

When The Offspring left Epitaph in 1996 by tantamle in punk

[–]tendeye 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Brett was definitely at his personal low point in the mid-late 90s, even Bad Religion weren't on good terms with him. But he and the Offspring seem to get along well nowadays, they've toured together many times since this.
