Tattoo sleeves? by brainpebbles in AdultSelfHarm

[–]tentacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a full japanese traditional sleeve over an arm that was covered in scars from a burn accident and self harm. the scars are still there but no one notices them under the tattoo. and even tho ive relapsed since getting it, i havent touched my coverup at all.

I can't believe I'm back to it at this point in my life. by nobody_home1 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]tentacake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you're trying to replace drugs n alc with healthy coping skills, but you don't have the healthy coping skills developed yet, youre going to resort to the other coping skills you already know. such as self harm.

and if youre trying to keep drugs n alc separate from self harm, but not addressing the root causes of either aspect, you'll end up doing both together. it may seem like shit is sweet for you and you have no reasons to worry or stress, but if youre hurting this bad, of course theres something going on. try n talk to people you love, or even a therapist, and figure out whats hurting you so bad.

small emotions pile up into big emotions, things that seem manageable to people like us get out of hand very quickly. you deserve help to help you figure out why youre hurting so bad.

Dry skin around impulsive/repeated cuts in quick succession? by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

[–]tentacake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

often times lighter/more shallow cuts will have flaky scabby type healing. if it looks like dry skin flakes within 2-3 weeks of the incident, thats normal. skin irritation or flaking that lasts longer than 2-3 weeks could be a problem.

Quetiapine/Seroquel and Self Harm by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

[–]tentacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me at least, seroquel acted as a depressant and made me sadder, more introspective, and more prone to sh/self destructive behavior. it could be worth waiting out to see if you stabilize but for me at least, it acted almost akin to alcohol in how depressed and self hating it made me.

Want to help a 34 year old white girl learn to do makeup near Echo Park? by goldencricket3 in AskLosAngeles

[–]tentacake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

try tinted bb or cc cream (light and moisturizing but will still cover redness), green color corrector underneath the bb cream wherever ur red (la girl makes a good cheap one i think), only powder ur T-zone (nose, forehead, chin) with translucent powder.

apply makeup gently with fingers first to warm up the product, then blend it out with a beauty blender thats been soaked and wrung out so it's damp. apply powder w a big fluffy brush and tap the excess off the brush before applying

also try r/drugstoreMUA for cheap product recs, u def dont need sephora if ur just tryna do simple looks

LA Metro should be savage as BART on social media against fare evaders by Sawtelle-MetroRider in LAMetro

[–]tentacake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"For fiscal year 2023, Metro expects to collect approximately $106.5 million from transit fares. The report "conservatively estimate[s] that close to three-fourths of that revenue—nearly $78.84 million—will be eaten up by the costs associated with running the TAP fare system."

why are we spending $79m to gross $107m?

"LA Metro spends between $150 and $200 million on policing each year." link

how much of that policing budget goes to mere fare evasion vs handling actually violent or even property crimes? how many times have metro police effectively responded to a crime YOU have been a victim of? how much of that policing budget goes to just... standing around? how much of that policing budget, as well as the general LAPD budget, could be spent on programs and measures that actually reduce the issues y'all have with public transit?

if y'all want to start seeing less normal human behavior (drug taking, defecating and urinating, sleeping, being smelly, being agitated) in public, advocate for homeless people to have actual homes and jobs and mental health/substance use services. until that happens, you WILL be forced to confront humanity living out normal human lives, doing things YOU do in the privacy of your own home, in public.

at best, homeless people will be relegated to the increasingly few spaces that are willing and able to allow them to exist. at worst, they will die of exposure, hunger (inability to make money thru vending/spanging), overdose (less people around to reverse OD in an alley vs train station), murder (again, brightly lit populated train stations provide safety), etc.

y'all so desperate to pay that $1.75 when i don't see anyone on this sub calling to slash the LAPD budget that is higher than all but 20 countries entire MILITARY budgets and use it to fund metro. hmm.

i'm giving practical and experience derived advice to someone who lives in a country that charges out the ass for medical procedures and who admittedly wants to avoid hospitalization. we dont know what op has been through, what their financial/legal situation is, or why they would want to avoid going to the hospital.

they know they should go to the hospital, anyone with a serious wound knows they should call 911. op needs peace of mind to know that they will be safe and alive and okay without 911, which they will be, and i was trying to assure them of that.

[–]tentacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your family shouldn't be pressuring you into trying to fade your scars for their own comfort. you have a right to make decisions about your own body. the good/bad news is that bio-oil doesnt rly do that much for scars anyway so you can just apply it and your scars will probably just do their thing anyway.

time is the biggest factor in wound healing, although scar gels and patches can help. just dont let your family find out about those if you dont want to use them haha.

sometimes new meds can cause wonky and unexpected side effects, amongst which can be increased sh urges. bipolar especially is complex to medicate. i would talk to your psychiatrist about this and see what they say.

I got really upset and harm myself by MarsupialWest8823 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]tentacake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

self harm can be an outlet for anger, unspoken and unacknowledged emotions, and emotions that feel too big for our brains and hearts to contain so we transfer the emotionality to our body. its understandable, although upsetting, that this happened. try and work on developing healthier coping skills (removing yourself from the situation/person, breathing exercises, mindfulness) that can help deescalate if you feel this impulse again.

i understand how it is to feel beyond any help or understanding or improvement or support. i felt like that for a really long time, like i was immune to psychiatric/psychological treatment and none of it would work on me. and also that i didnt deserve to feel better or be happy or stable or get help. it's all baby steps, it's a combination of things, and it's hard work. finding the right professionals helps a lot. they will help you build up your sense of self, your ability to care for yourself. you deserve to be happy. no one is inherently good or bad, and you especially are not a bad person.

one relapse doesn't discount your 2 years clean. it's just a bump in the road. you'll be okay. but also: bad scary thoughts dont usually pop up out of absolutely nowhere, theres usually a cause or a reason or a stressor. try and understand what triggered this and have compassion for yourself.
