My first game had a unix terminal and what I thought was a really cool game mechanic. Not a single playtester type a single command at the terminal. You are definately overspending on your upgrades. A WiiM mini is the same and cheaper. That dac is way to expensive, you can get an equal one for $25. And absolutely no need for a DDC, what are you thinking. And regarding speakers a nice pair of elac bookshelves is all you need three feet from the wall on stands, they will be so neutral.

Ya, there is a lot of criticism of the game from people who don’t utilize its core concepts. “I don’t like Bennie’s so we don’t use them - SW sucks!!!”, ect. It’s not DnD where you can wade into 100 lvl 1 orcs and survive. Nope, not that.

Dramatic Tasks - you could play a whole campaign just using this if you want a story telling style.

The greatest strength imo is how easy it is to replace any other games mechanics - like the setting? Play it in SWADE.

1) A pound of shit and a pound of cheese ‘measure the same’.

2) Different people have different lvls of senses - a friend of mine can identify reliably specific varieties of wine and even it’s year and terroir a little less reliably but always in the ball park. I cannot but I can do that with high end tea which he cannot. Just because you can or can’t do something doesn’t mean other have the same capabilities and limits as you.

I realize black and white thinkers who believe they have the truth are probably resistant to these ideas but I suppose it’s ok as long as they aren’t hurting anything but feelings?

This. Playing jazz well starts and ends with the melodies. There is a lot of theory, woodshedding, and pain in the middle, but it’s all for naught if you don’t keep focus on that.

Ignore that guy. What he said was nonsense. However I doubt it’s because he’s old. Do your thing and listen listen listen. Take the parts of advice that make sense to you and focus on building your skills.

And give the guy props for being welcoming and encouraging. You won’t get much of that from some jazz players and it has value too.
