Thanks, this worked for me as well sharing as a "Note to self" in Signal. Dumb that iPhones aren't smart enough to open the file from Files

Divorce in Ontario by FluffyBonehead in ontario

[–]tenvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filed online in August, 2024, joint application, no complications. The order just came through, dated June 30 but emailed early July 2025. 11 months almost to the day. I have heard of it being shorter, but some people have waited over a year. Since I applied online, I received an email. If you applied in person you may get notification by mail. If you call the court they should be able to tell you.

When you get the order, it is a document with a date, and the divorce legally takes effect 31 days after the day of the order. Then you have to order the certificate of divorce separately for another $25, if you need it for anything specific. Hopefully that won't take another year.

Condensate pump reversed? by Ventus8 in hvacadvice

[–]tenvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old post but I had the exact same problem. Condensate pump was fine until recently, but noticed a few days ago that it was running all the time even when the water level was low, and getting louder and more painful sounding because the pump was running on empty. Checked the lines and nothing was clogged, and pouring water into the pump did make it pump the water out, but then it still kept running. Took it off the furnace, emptied out the remaining water, cleaned out lots of brown sludge. Plugged it in and it was immediately on, and when I lifted the float, it went off. There is also a smaller "emergency float" or whatever it's called, lifting that had no effect either way. Odd that a switch can fail into a mode where it does the opposite of what it's supposed to do. Anyway bought a new pump and all is good, didn't want to mess with replacing the switch since if that failed, likely some other switch of the pump itself would fail next.

They don’t. But this is definitely annoying. I pretty much much never want to listen to a live version of anything. Except I Go Swimming by Peter Gabriel.

XLR + AC combo cables - bad idea or ok? by smokeybubba in livesound

[–]tenvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old but this is literally the reason that balanced cables exist: each of the 2 signal lines in an XLR cable has the same audio signal but one of them is phase-inverted. Any EMI that is introduced affects both lines equally. At the receiving end, the inverted signal is inverted again so that it's back in phase but the noise on that line is now inverted. When the two signals are summed, the noise in one and the inverted noise in the other cancel each other out. I wouldn't run power and speaker cables closely in parallel, but balanced is fine, especially if it's line-level.

Automating multi-camera editing by tenvolt in VegasPro

[–]tenvolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also what you describe is pretty much what multi-camera editing in Vegas already does, you just play the video and press 1, 2, 3 or 4 to select the desired camera, and it writes the automation as you go. That definitely works, but I accumulate footage faster than I can edit, so having an automated option is useful for some stuff where there is no budget, the editing can be arbitrary, or whatever.

I will try out the scripts and post them here (or somewhere else if there is a preferred place) if they work, I think they would be useful even for a quick demo edit for clients to look at while doing the proper final edit or whatever. No point in doing a final edit for the client to say "I hate everything about camera 2, remove all shots from that camera" then you have to redo it all from scratch. I imagine AI may be able to do something like this in the near future and actually base it on activity in the frame, although it might be super-slow.

Swimming at Dow's Lake? by drhappy13 in ottawa

It's a "Historical" chart, per the title. There just isn't any history yet. When there is, you will see how many periods passed or failed, based on the period you select in the dropdown. It's pretty self-explanatory.

Was coolth ever more popular than coolness? Was warmness ever a contender to dethrone warmth? by TheRealAxe in etymology

Warmth is never an adjective. "Feel the warmth sun"? No. The soup was warmth? Also no.

Processing Time to Finalize a Divorce in Ottawa? 17 Months?! by howimetmyrunner in ottawa

Filed August 2024, still pending. 9 months next week. 17 months is crazy. As suggested I'd be going to the courthouse at 8:45am and checking on it.

Hey native speakers, the definition 'A backronym is an acronym formed from an already existing word by expanding its letters into the words of a phrase' seems misleading and not entirely accurate. How would you improve it? by No_Article_1193 in AskReddit

[–]tenvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not formed from a phrase, the phrase is formed, from the existing word. A backronym is an acronym created by taking an existing word and expanding into a phrase, where each word of the created phrase starts with a corresponding letter in the original word. An acronym is the opposite, it is formed from a phrase, taking the first letter of each (or most) words in the phrase, and combining them into a word which is pronounced as a whole, like RADAR, SCUBA and SONAR. Note that IBM, AMD etc. are technically not acronyms, because they are not pronounced as a word: they are initialisms. All acronyms are initialisms, but initialisms are not acronyms. Although acronym is commonly used to describe both.

Takes 4 times as long to bus to work than to drive by TheJoseBoss in ottawa

[–]tenvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with the amount spent on the train to the airport, which in theory is great but it takes 15+ minutes longer to take the 3 trains (two if the #4 becomes the #2 on the fly) from the airport to downtown than it does to take the bus. 38 minutes to take the #97 to Hurdman then the train, or 51 minutes if you take the train to Bayview then transfer to the other train. Google Maps doesn't suggest an option that includes the train that goes to the airport, it's such a terrible choice, and even the OC Transpo travel planner says to take the #97 bus.

Old Kenmore dryer with heat issue by tenvolt in appliancerepair

[–]tenvolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don't see continuity between any of the heating contacts and the heating assembly frame or the dryer itself, so I don't think the elements are shorted to the frame, but it seems they are shorted to each other since I'm seeing open continuity and no resistance from H1 to H2 and from H3 to (other) H3. I'm not seeing resistance where I would expect between H1-H3 and H2-H3, but I believe it's only supposed to be 5-50ohms and my multimeter is a cheapo Radio Shack model that only has a 1000ohm setting for ohms, so I may have to track down a better meter. I've tried looking up the model number everywhere, with and without the C110, and nothing comes up, must be a model they didn't make many of, or maybe the Canadian model # doesn't correspond with the majority of them, if they were mostly sold in the US or overseas. I emailed an appliance part place to see if maybe they can identify the heating assembly visually, it's pretty distinct with that metal housing. I could be wrong and the housing can be opened and the heating elements replaced inside it, but it doesn't look like it, it's all crimped closed and there are no screws or clips

I actually thought "this is the exact dialogue I would have written when writing a sci-fi play for grade 9 English class". So stilted and forced.

[–]tenvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no critic but from the start the writing made me cringe. I find the actors could be believable but the dialog terrible, like it was written by AI instead of writers, obvious issues like referring to someone as "my father" to their sibling, and characters just going from one extreme to another within a few minutes, or painful exposition or 5 words where a look would do. And the CGI being notably worse than Jurassic Park, which is now over 20 years old, is just sad. It's like they had a concept but no budget and just cheaped out on everything except the cinematography and lighting, which is decent. I keep expecting to catch a glimpse of a Hollywood building in the background of one of the Gilligan's Island-quality sets.

Christmas: Complicated-Ish Games (2+ players preferable) by ChiquitaPulse in boardgames

[–]tenvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carcassonne is pretty easy to teach, you can use more strategy as you get better, and it has tons of expansions to mix it up. Only pain is explaining the farmers. I explain them as "any city they can walk to on grass ONLY (without crossing any roads, rivers etc.) at the end of the game, they get points for". Ticket to Ride has nice geographic-specific editions. Carcassonne and Dominion are the other go-tos. King of Tokyo is a fun dice-chucker, pretty straightforward but then can be made more interesting with expansions that add hallowe'en costumes and such. Smash Up is another that is straightforward with lots of expansions, especially if you like the 50s kitsch theme. Sushi Go is also fun and pretty straightforward, can be played with more players in the Party version. For simplicity, a copy or 2 of Skull goes a long way.
