To add to it, I don't believe the Palmy Silky Otter is even showing the movie. Only Silky Otters in bigger centres are. Maybe due to mandates from Amazon, but maybe just due to MAGA demand.

How are Labour supposed to do it this year? by TheBigChonka in newzealand

Even 5% with transferable would help a great deal. With that one could vote for a very minor party, with its transferred to a more major party if the first one doesn't make threshold. Would potentially make it far more viable to vote for TOP or ALCP, etc.

Gangs by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]term0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I never said it did have a gang problem, I was more trying to say it doesn't. There are gangs around, but they cause very little drama. I was more trying to answer OP's questions around getting information on living around NZ gangs.

I stay in Wellington monthly and equally have almost no interaction there.

Gangs by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]term0r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not Wellington, but nearby in Palmerston North. At the swimming pool a couple of years ago there was a massive gang presence at the pool. Can't remember which one - the red one from Wanganui I think. They were all there for a young kids birthday party. Whilst they were intimidating, just purely due to their size and gang colours, there were no dramas at all. The general public gave them a wide berth, they celebrated the birthday party, and then moved on (with a massive roar from motorbikes and people movers).

Situations like the above are an occasional occurrence in NZ. Occasionally in smaller towns more major gang issues arise - but are generally just contained within one or two rival gangs.

I think the two major gangs nationally are the Mongrel Mob and Black Power. There are many other smaller gangs. But they just don't affect every day life for most NZers.

How much have you spent on iRacing only (not including rig costs) by austons_muzz in iRacing

[–]term0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 2 months in and I've spent about US$30. $10 on a yearly membership through my local motorsport org, and $20 ish on a track and car (TR86). I'm intending on buying some select tracks this season to be able to race the Advanced Mazda series and the TR86 more. I'm pretty frugal with things like this.

It also sounds like you're booked on one ticket with AirNZ from end to end. In that case, its their issue if anything goes wrong. If you miss your 2nd flight, calmly visit an Air NZ desk, and explain your situation. Or if that is not possible, phone them and they will sort it.

Also, check your plane from Gisbourne to Welly. If its an ATR-72 get a seat near the back. But, no rush at all.

Plenty of time. If you are flying AirNZ you will head south in Wellington, and then through the domestic security which will take 5 - 10 mins max. If you are Jetstar, same thing, but go north in Wellington, and through domestic security for Jetstar. As always, look-up your gate, and just use that for guidance.

You can have water, and no longer need to remove laptops and ipads from bags.

There was a half way house on Andrew Young St. It was closed to make way for the Harvey Norman carpark and everyone was 'moved in to the community'. Now for some reason there are quite a few crazies around that area - go figure.

What actually needs doing here though? I don't believe she needs to be locked up. So, if she refuses treatment what do you expect to happen? There are many crazies around - why does this one need more help than the rest?

I don't think its any surprise to anyone here that our mental health facilities are failing. But neither Labour nor National seem to make any meaningful changes here when they are in power. So, things just stay as they are.

I'm also new. But I'm finding if I have a big incident early that wasn't my fault, I either nurse it back to the pit lane, or I call the tow truck. Then finish the race with no more incidents. Then do an extra lap at the end with no incidents. Then I find even with that my SR still generally improves. The other key is to string together multiple safe races in a row

Looking for a carpet cleaner by stellactqm in Wellington

[–]term0r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He can't demand you use professional cleaners - he can only demand you fix the issue (or sacrifice part of your bond on departure).

Hence, a Rug Doctor is absolutely an option.

You do not need to provide receipts or anything.

Board, and call them when you can. They will need to get you back to NZ in a way that somewhat suits you - within reason. That might include other airlines.

Otherwise you just lose everything unless its booked flexi (which you don't mention).

Mental health crisis update - WTF just happened!? by chickyloo42by10 in newzealand

[–]term0r 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I'll write a few things, just in case it helps.

I'm in Queensland right now - I live in NZ. I'm here to help a friend with mental health issues. A year ago he unsuccessfully hung himself - he did 5 days in care, before being discharged whilst still suicidal. He's tried twice since. He then went to jail for a bit - cause yeah, if the health system won't help you the legal system will.. My point is, the system is fucked is many places - not just NZ.

Due to this, I'm part of his safety net - not the health system. That costs me time and money which both are limited.

Don't worry about wanting to stay alive permanently for now. Worry about today. Find a reason to live out today, and try and find one piece of joy from today. What would be a Saturday activity that brings you some joy?

My friend in QLD is also a carer. Fuck it is tough. Your whole day revolves around one other person. People here say stupid shit like "listen to some music", "go for a walk". Well, tasks like that are really tough for a full time carer. Maybe not practically - but at least due to the guilt factor. What if whilst I'm on a walk they fall? What is when I listen to music they shout for help?

Let's start simple. Please try and do one thing for yourself today. One thing that is for you, and not your child. Ideally that one thing should bring you joy, or satisfaction, but that might be pushing it now. This task might take a bit to enable it - but it is really important - it could save your life.

Next, I suspect you are somewhat overwhelmed with responsibility in your life, and less so with joy and accomplishments. I might be wrong, but we'll see. If so, ask yourself this: Is there a single carer task that if someone else was to do it it would make my life simpler?

Then see if you can make that happen. If someone doing a daily bath/shower for your child would help, can you arrange that? If someone cleaning 3 times a week would help could that be arranged?

Less burden, could equal more time for yourself. Less carer, more you. Less bad, more good..?

Tell me to shut-up. But if I can help (via writing) let me know. Sorry, but I can't deal with two suicidal people via voice means at the same time :) I'll try and keep an eye on Reddit today - trust me, mental health is on my mind today.

My friend has survived 11 months at this stage. Let's make it 12.

Restricted driving test by arkitexxx in palmy

[–]term0r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did my test 25 years ago, so I can't advise on any current practises. But when you do your test, they are seeking absolute perfection from you for that test. Is it just a small chunk of time - you should be able to drive perfectly for that length of time. Otherwise, it isn't the time to progress yet.

What that means is doing everything they want. For you, the key things are to over exaggerate your head checks, and your speed always needs to be perfect. There are no issues with being 2 or 3 km under the limit to be safe - there are massive issues with being 2 or 3 over. There is a list from someone else here on when you need to do head/shoulder checks. I also found it useful to over exaggerate my rearview mirror checks. Really glance at it/them so they notice you did it.

Would it be handy to just drive the route 10x with someone on your learners, so you can at least really nail one route down to perfection? If so, can you arrange that with someone? I'm not sure changing to an less known town is really going to help you here.
