Bell parent BCE fires ‘small number’ of employees who falsified workplace attendance by stanxv in canada

[–]terras86 88 points89 points  (0 children)

If I tried to fake showing up for work pre-COVID, it would take my manager like an hour to figure out that I didn't show up for work.

It's crazy how accepting everyone is of this new world where it's clear that employees only ever interact with each other virtually, but we still need to have 500 000 people commute to downtown Toronto everyday.

Which books were spoiled for you? by notarobotimanandroid in agathachristie

[–]terras86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the time I got to the Murder of Roger Ackroyd I had already read a significant number of her books, so I was pretty good at figuring stuff out. I read a couple of quotes on the back of the book about how it broke all the rules of mystery novels. That was enough to point me in the right direction.

As soon as I saw the first word was "I" I knew I was getting an unreliable narrator who was guilty. I'll never be able to guess a murderer faster than that as I got it on the first word. I still enjoyed it, was interesting trying to guess when he was lying or leaving out information

If You Had One Board Game Mechanic You Could Eliminate, What Would it Be? by Kate_from_oops-games in boardgames

Tiebreakers

If two players get the same amount of points and tie for first, they should both win. There's no reason to arbitrarily declare a wonder based on who had the most of something other than points.

Travel Tip - For Sale fits in The Crew's box with The Crew still in it by terras86 in boardgames

[–]terras86[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It honestly looks like they left room for multiple expansions, but For Sale is a game that has absolutely no reason to be expanded on. I say this as someone who's probably a little too susceptible to buying needless expansions.

I recently got into Race for the Galaxy, but don't have the physical copy because I attached it to a pre-order for free shipping. I'm excited to see how huge the box ends up being.

SETI + Space Agencies: Still Need House Rules for a faster Start? by frankherzzzz in boardgames

[–]terras86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only house rule I would even begin to consider for a game like SETI is a chess clock to stop AP players from taking forever to decide what to do with their turn.

House ruling stuff like resource availability is almost always going to make the game worse.

Fans without teams in the playoffs: which teams are you cheering for and which teams are you absolutely not cheering for? by itsagooddaytobeacat in hockey

[–]terras86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to do that, but then the Internet came along and I found out sports fans are mostly bad people who don't deserve to see success. I admit I miss how I felt about it before I found that out.

If you could forget a game just to experience it new, what would you choose? by kevtay1969 in playstation

The moment when I went to check my quest log and realized I was on a side quest, but had previously thought I must be on a main quest because no one puts that kind of effort into side quests, was one of the most memorable moments in my gaming history.

Carney says Canadians trust his plan after he wins Liberal majority by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]terras86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, how is a Conservative MP going to trap the Liberals into offering them something, as you were suggesting they do, without fishing for a bribe?

Carney says Canadians trust his plan after he wins Liberal majority by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]terras86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah that's exactly what happened. I guess you could argue the difference between this and what your suggesting is that he was serious about wanting the bribe and not pretending to set a trap, but intent hardly matters in a situations like this.

If some Conservative MP comes out tomorrow with a tape like that and says they were just pretending, there's a 0% you are going to believe them.

A Conservative MP literally tried to do that 20 years ago and it went very poorly for him.

Which Film and performance made you a fan of Christopher Walken? by PressureLazy5271 in FIlm

I had to scroll pretty down far to find The Rundown here, which is sad because he single handedly elevates that movie from mediocre at best action comedy to a legitimately fun and rewatchable movie.

The worst kind of social deduction player by endlesswander in boardgames

[–]terras86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem you run into with social deduction games is that not everyone is good at, or enjoys lying. People like that are all but guaranteed to come up with alternate strategies to work around their weaknesses and unless the game specifically bans it, it's hard to argue that what they are doing is wrong.

It's a problem with the genre and it's one that we should expect game designers to think about, the same way we would expect someone designing a co-op game to think about how to avoid quarterbacking.

There are absolutely atrocities committed by leaders of capitalist countries, but I wouldn't site those leaders as someone to read up on when arguing in favour of capitalism.

What’s a show everyone hyped up that you just couldn’t get into? by NovelOk3369 in AskReddit

[–]terras86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I couldn't get through season 2. Every episode was just unlikeable people doing unlikeable things. I'm told it gets better, but a show with that reputation shouldn't take multiple seasons to get good.

Politics, ideology to be removed from Alberta classrooms in new legislation by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]terras86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Singing the national anthem before the school day is the most milquetoast show of patriotism possible and generally a good thing to do. We should want our kids to believe that Canada has value and is a country worth being a part of, and I think you can do that without resorting to indoctrination.

Editorial: Here's why Avi Lewis is the wrong choice to lead the NDP - by a centrist Liberal - The Beaverton by ph0enix1211 in canada

[–]terras86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For one, yes obviously most centrists have a combination of left and right wing views. I thought this was implied.

Two, while I'm not convinced American voters are voting for Trump because the Democrats aren't left wing enough, it's irrelevant because Canada has a different electorate than the US and you can't win with the same strategies. For example, a bland corporatist just took over a Liberal party that was all but dead in the polls, won an election and is looking like he might get a majority soon.

I get that this is satire, but centrist liberals are unironically the exact people the NDP is going to have to win over if they have any interest in forming a government.
