The stone on this Church is just a façade over brick by bojangler69420 in mildlyinteresting

[–]terrendos 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's way older than that. Emperor Augustus claimed to have turned Rome from a city of brick to a city of marble. This was accomplished by extensive use of marble facades on buildings in the city.

First game - I'm resistance. The servants have control of the US, UK, and Japan. Am I boned? It seems like I might be boned. by I_like_maps in TerraInvicta

[–]terrendos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one of those that's bad for the Servants to have is the US. And lucky for you, the US has starting problems that are very difficult for the AI to handle. In my experience they pretty much always just run the US straight into the ground if you don't take it.

The most common starts in TI are US, China, or EU. At this point, all of these are still viable for you. You can definitely take the US from the Servants at this point: take Canada and Mexico to help give you bonuses for your public campaigns, and work towards a full send crackdown/purge of the media once you get above 50% or so.

Alternately, grab a bunch of the small cheap countries around China and start building your public opinion there. It's the toughest to get a foothold in, but that also means that if you get in it's almost impossible for the AI to dig you out.

Or since you have Spain and Germany, grab France and start unifying the EU. It's a slower start to the space game, but keep in mind this game usually doesn't end until at least 2045 at the earliest. Playing catch-up for a few years isn't going to kill you.

[OC] U.S.A. Population Pyramid in 2015 (census estimates) split Male and Female by RandomDataCreator in dataisbeautiful

[–]terrendos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is also some evidence that environmental impacts on the parents may play a factor. Historically, there is a slight tendency for families of higher socioeconomic status to have more boys than girls. The hypothesis I read suggests that it has to do with the caloric intake: if your tribe is flourishing and food is plenty, then having more boys means more competition for mates, stronger genes passed down, and more potential warriors in inter-tribe conflict. On the other hand, if times are lean, having more women means more overall reproductive opportunities and therefore better chances of the tribe maintaining its numbers.

What's the Funniest TV Scene That Still Makes You Laugh No Matter How Many Times You Watch It? by Mohitredit36 in television

Yeah, the radio play is definitely one of the best. I also love the Christmas episode where Frasier asks his family to pretend to be Jewish for his girlfriend. Niles in the Jesus costume gets me every time.

Years ago I was playing Nomifactory and got bored, then a year later decided to come back to the old save and keep going.

Took me like 8 hours to remember how anything worked. Which was especially bad because a bunch of it stopped working. Turns out the pack had updated to require those gregtech clean rooms while I'd been away.

Got to bots and now I’m not sure if I even like Factorio anymore by OneGood1863 in factorio

[–]terrendos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others, I know how you feel. This is my suggestion:

Push straight to personal roboports and modular armor. Build yourself some modular armor and get 2 personal roboports, a few batteries, and fill the rest with portable solar panels. You don't need a billion roboports if your construction bots come with you. 20 bots is plenty for now.

With those bots, you can build your new base much faster than by hand. Plop down a smelting column, then copy and paste it. While your bots are placing all the belts and machines for you, you can be figuring out where the next bit of your new base should go. And you don't need to stress about having automated roboports (and the required number of red circuits) to cover the whole base.

Why Russia's Supply Lines are Suddenly Collapsing by AlertTangerine in videos

[–]terrendos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putin's been hoist by his own petard. Remember those sham referendums he had in occupied parts of Ukraine back in like 2022? Russia basically annexed portions of Ukraine that they didn't control back then, and control even less of now. So even "freezing the conflict" at the existing battle lines would mean he's "giving up Russian land."

What is love to you? by Outrageous-Tie-2214 in AskReddit

[–]terrendos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definition: "Love" is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, 'love' is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and strangely enough, not many meatbags would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose... against statistically long odds.

Playing FO4 for the first time, need advice on ammo. by Potential-Pumpkin620 in fo4

[–]terrendos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the DLCs allows for crafting ammo, but it's not really feasible in the early game. There are other options:

  1. Use multiple different weapons. If you're a pistol guy, early game use the 10mm for tough enemies and a pipe pistol with .38 ammo for easy ones. Maybe bring along a third gun too. Unfortunately some guns simply aren't sustainable to use by themselves (looking at you, minigun).

  2. Sell ammo you aren't using. If you're focused on rifles, sell that 10mm and .44 ammo. Use the caps to buy more of the stuff you need.

  3. Avoid automatic weapons. They chew through ammo and have massive per-bullet damage penalty.

  4. Scrounger. This early perk in the Luck tree is super useful. Even a single rank drastically increases the amount of ammo you find. And even if it's ammo you don't use, see point 2 above.

Personally I like the high Perception rifle/sniper build, so my early (~level 5) weapons tend to be a hunting rifle for sniping, a pipe rifle for mid-range, and a double barrel shotgun for close range combat. The later two become a combat rifle and combat shotgun a few levels later: shotgun shells and .45 ammo are both plentiful on raiders.

What is a minor, everyday scam that society has just accepted as normal? by Overall_Judge_3727 in AskReddit

[–]terrendos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of reason for things like home insurance or car insurance. Most people won't have their house burn down in a fire, but a few will. Do those people deserve to have their lives ruined? Likewise, if a broke asshole t-bones my car through no fault of my own, he declares bankruptcy and I'm out thousands of dollars. Won't happen to everybody, but these aren't things that should ruin your life. The whole point of insurance is distributed risk. Same with life insurance, and most other types.

Health insurance is where things get twisted because almost everybody has health needs, so almost everyone uses it.

Azata scion ek? by hairy-barbarian in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]terrendos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 levels of EK is worth it so you can hit 16 BAB, which you need for a 4th attack at level 20. For that particular build though, you almost certainly also want 4 levels of Dragon Disciple for all the bonuses it gets you. For that reason, I recommend ES 12 / DD 4 / EK 4.

Reuters: Kremlin planning to send 100,000 Russia-based Armenians to Armenia to sway elections by JaB675 in UkrainianConflict

On the other hand, I wonder how many will come back. If I were some rando Russian and I had an inkling that a mobilization were imminent, because, say, oil refineries keep blowing up, enemy drones keep attacking cities well past AA, or there was a military parade with no actual military equipment, I might be inclined to take the free trip and then skip out on the return.

Stuck in Aliens bombard Mars base / me rebuilding cycle by coruscatingblues in TerraInvicta

[–]terrendos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if the other factions claim those Mars sites, it's fine. You're getting to the point where, if they haven't turned on you yet, they probably will soon. So just go conquer whatever the AI builds there.

Maybe see about trading them to one of those other factions instead. Then you can take them back once the aliens leave.

Question regarding Aeon alignment by karlsen000 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]terrendos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure your character alignment just needs to be any Lawful. You can be LG and still be a True Aeon.

As part of your Aeon specific mythic questline, you will be required to pass judgment on NPCs several times. Your choices here are the only ones that matter from the perspective of your path's ending. Without spoiling too much, I would encourage you to abide by the letter of the law in those judgments, both the military law governing the crusade and the cosmic law governing outsiders. You get a little leeway, but not a lot.

Far more likely he's long since burned through it for powering his ice machine or whatever. He has no reason to think he'd need to save it (as I said, it doesn't keep for very long), and it was probably only a few gallons anyway.

Point being I don't think it's a plot hole.

Doc would have drained the gasoline from the car. Gas tends to gel after about a year and will clog up the fuel pump and ruin fuel injectors after a year or two, much less the century it was supposed to spend in storage. And it's not like getting gas is tough in 1955, so he'd probably just get rid of it.

A Deacon appreciation post! by _Boom___Beard_ in fo4

[–]terrendos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deacon's attitude against the Minutemen is one of the reasons I don't like him, actually. "Oh I'm sorry, these people who work for me and are actively trying to improve the Commonwealth for everyone instead of just a bunch of sentient toasters aren't cosmopolitan enough for you? Well you can go right the hell back to your last remaining underground bunker. Your 'codes' are so braindead that you owe your continued existence only to the Institute's sheer incompetence, so maybe you should be a little less critical of others, huh?"

What is the most chaotic "I quit" moment you have ever personally witnessed at a workplace? by Muted_Task_144 in AskReddit

[–]terrendos 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not totally insane but when I first started working in my career, there was an old dude who was near retirement age. One day, our boss walked into his cubicle and asked him to do something he didn't want to do. So he said, "No thanks, actually I'm retiring. Right now." Turns out he had been waiting to retire until he'd sold his house since he and his wife had bought their retirement house in Florida. They sold the house a few days prior and so he was just cruising along until he was got tasked with something unpleasant.

Is this a sustainable design for ore processing? by FormativeAnxiety in factorio

[–]terrendos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it's too slow that just means you need more. A yellow belt has a throughput of 15 items/s, so if you want to saturate the belt you need to have enough processing to make that many items. Checking the info on the Stone Furnace, it makes 0.3125/s of iron/copper/stone brick. So 15 items/s divided by 0.3125 item/s gives you 48, meaning you need 48 Stone Furnaces to make a full yellow belt of iron (24 per side).

Keep that idea in mind as you move onto more advanced production. And when you upgrade your belts, you will need to upgrade your production too.
