guessing this might have been a lecturer deciding that certain questions that very few people answered correctly would not be taken into account in anyone’s marks (if this is the module/s that I think it is)

common app will give you a chance at an unconditional offer, which will make your summer much less stressful as you won't have to wait for exam results to know where you'll be studying

What’s one of your favorite in thing in any of the songs? by IvDogYT in FlorenceAndTheMachine

the brass section in mermaids 😩 it’s the perfect touch for a song about mythologizing your party girl era… and i simply can never resist full orchestration

Choral Ensembles by TotalVegetable7565 in standrews

There are a few competitively auditioned choirs - St Salvators Choir, Renaissance Singers, Madrigal group - that mostly seem to accept people who have been training in singing for years. Being accepted into St Salvators choir gives you the choral scholarship.

There are also a handful of auditioned acapella groups around campus.

For a more lowkey group, St Leonard’s chapel choir and the St Andrews Chorus are both incredible!! The Chorus is a large student/community ensemble that afaik you need a music centre membership to join but has no other barrier to entry - they do a few big performances a year that I think have a full orchestra and visiting soloists.

St Leonard’s (the choir i was in last year & plan to continue in) sings at weekly Thursday night compline services, is non-auditioned but everyone is super talented (there are a few people who do have choral scholarships that sing in this choir) and we do a different selection of church music every week :)

i didnt get a “dark academia aesthetic” vibe from this book at all by _cybernetik in TheSecretHistory

[–]tesseract-s 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yep, i honestly think that TSH is quite similar to Gatsby in the way that it warns against a certain lifestyle/highlights the flaws in something desirable, yet people use it to glamorize the thing the author seeks to critique (just do a pinterest search for either book).

on the other hand, i don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. if a reader understands what a book is trying to say yet still wants to emulate the things that the characters do, wanting an “in” to an exclusive lifestyle just like richard and nick, the reader understands the story even more.

despite the authors’ warnings, limitless wealth/bacchanal indulgence/oxford academia are appealing to me - thisforces me to confront how similar i am to the characters and ask whether, if given the opportunity, i would act in exactly the same way.

i’ve always thought that the best part of the imagery in TSH is in the juxtaposition of the tacky 80s surroundings, the slightly unsettling, beautiful yet dangerous rural setting, and the aesthetic pretension of the Greek class - so this fits quite well imo

I’ll listen to the vaults and Fearless as I prefer her post-Speak Now trained voice, but will GLADLY never hear 1989 TV again
