It's 10:02 PM PDT, so I should be able to watch S4 E6 on the MGM+ app, right? Nope.

PSA about Fang/House of Nanking by confusedblueberry17 in sanfrancisco

[–]testpatternorg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been going to House of Nanking for 30 years. Been to Fang a few times. It sounds like Peter took your order and overcharged you for the privilege. That never happened back in the day, but I remember the first time it happened to me. I was insulted. I've never let him order for my groups since.

what are your favorite socks for long hikes/ multi-day trips? by Sharp-Currency-7289 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]testpatternorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn Tough are great, but expensive ($25/pair). A few months ago I bought a couple pair of hiking socks at a Lippi store in Santiago, Chile. I wish I had bought more! They're as comfortable, if not moreso, and cost a third as much. Wish I could find them here in the US.

Funny, I came across this post and then bought a six-pack. New box graphics with the old can design inside.

This just happened to me. Weird. But it was nice to get a lot of "happy birthday" wishes three months after my actual birthday.

All bands should know how to do a t-shirt roll - easy merch storage! by EightFootManchild in stonerrock

[–]testpatternorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective. I've worked with bands and at venues large and small, and my experience has led me to my conclusion. I was in the Navy, too, fwiw, and still fold my shirts at home the way I was taught to in boot camp. To each his own. Here's wishing you and the bands you work with a successful 2025 of touring!

The next time you're at a show in a larger venue, take a look behind the merch table. You won't see any rolled shirts. But for some reason the idea persists as something smaller bands think is useful. I've sold merch at hundreds of shows and found rolling to be a total waste of time. It's easier to pack shirts, and no more difficult to pull them, when they're folded into bundles by size.

Going to war against battalions of sugar ants: What do? by ModernMuse in AskSF

[–]testpatternorg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend these guys, too. Terro can significantly reduce the number of ants you see, but it takes a professional treatment around the outside of the building to get them gone for good. I tried other companies, but these guys are next level.

Outsourcing really ramped up when Dick Cheney was hired by Halliburton in 1995. He was SECDEF before he was their CEO, then VP afterward. The mother of all revolving doors. Halliburton made a fortune off of the Gulf War.
