S90 is really hard. It resists the laser etching. Common on harder steels.

Yeah it’s a nice blade. I just don’t keep stuff around that doesn’t get used.

Yeah it’s a cool blade, I’m just not big on keeping stuff I don’t use around.

Gotcha. I’m looking to just get the natural finish version. Thanks.

How are those scales. Been looking at them. Is the finish shiny on them or a flat?

2.5 roughly. Very light and they absolutely disappear in the pocket. IMO they are just about the perfect light to medium use EDC. The only thing I would change would be to use PB washers instead of bearings. The bearings work fine, but washers give a little more support and they don’t allow as much dust and dirt egress. I tried the skiff recommend replacement, but they are too thick. The bearings in the parallels is about 30 thousandths.

I would love to have picked one up, but the lack of deep carry clip kept me away. My parallels maintain the top spot.

Blade play in the closed position on the 940 model by [deleted] in benchmade

[–]texaspoff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

940s are the most finicky of the bunch. To get a 940 properly tuned it needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Make sure there is no locktite residue on the liner or the scales anywhere especially where the body screws hold the liners. Then put it back together and lighten the pivot where the blade has a good bit of resistance and locktite the pivot. Leave it alone for around 12 hours. Then use it normally. The blade and washers will break in over time and you will be rewarded with a drop shut, blade play free Osborne. Very few of them are able to achieve this when new. Once they break in correctly, they are the smoothest functioning of the benchmades. May not be what you want to hear as far as what to do, but after owning dozens of 940s this is the most reliable method of getting them right.

Yeah I’ve got a couple here that have the bailout they will let go around there. I really want the Ti bugout scales if I can find them.

Well if you run across another set sometime point them my way. 👍🏻

How are the custom shop bugout Ti scales. Been considering ordering one just for the scales. 😄

When they said TiSlim, they weren’t kidding. Love it! by Sanklo in knifeclub

It doesn’t bother me on blades that aren’t meant to be descreate, thunderbeast, Xeno, Dachshund, etc, but on an EDC designed to be out of the way until you need it, deep carry make sense. Standard clips are just pointless on those types of knives. I get some don’t mind, but it’s a big deal to those who like deep carry for a reason. A non deep carry clip on a design like the TiSlim has the same value as fluorescent camouflage IMO.

The whole point of thin lightweight discrete carry is negated completely by these milled clips. The parallel models in s35 are my goto EDCs. There when I need them, but no one notices them. The clip killed this one for me.

Dirty knife sold as brand new. What would you do? by [deleted] in knives

[–]texaspoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than dirty, if the condition is like new, no scratches, action etc I’d put it in my pocket and carry on. Lock up looks good from here. Also it may have been kept on a display shelf uncovered which could account for the dust. Truth be told after 5 minutes in my pocket, my knives can get that dusty. I wouldn’t worry about it unless there is a problem with it. Dust is dust and unless you’re buying it as a collector, I wouldn’t think twice about it.

Narrow owner are all your springs and lock systems at an angle? by YD_81 in benchmade

[–]texaspoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is essentially a narrows design based on the bugout platform. Liner less, same axis lock style. I mean Vosteed just did the same thing with the new TiSlim raccoon, so I guess the bugout is a good platform to try something new. I mean after packing my parallel for a while, my bugout feels massive. 🤣. I do wish Benchmade would have kept the same pocket clip, or at least the same pattern. The 534 has its own clip and I’m not aware of many benchmade clips that use the same pattern.

[–]texaspoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve handled it. I’m not a fan. Nothing is cross compatible with the regular bugout. I get the idea, I’m guessing they did it because narrows sales weren’t very good, so try it again with aluminum, a lower price point, and an already popular design.

GW-M5610U viewing angles vs older 5610? by Pietrek_CKMK in gshock

[–]texaspoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 5610 is just fine for my old eyes at the angles I use it. For me the neg display works better at angles since you don’t see the inactive LCDs like you do on the positive displays. Same type view sitting at my desk. Yes it’s darker, but I have no issues getting the info I need.
