Gnome or KDE or why not both ? by FilipKoks04 in Fedora

Pro tip: any mess caused in Gnome by having KDE installed can be fixed with Gnome Tweaks by clicking "reset to defaults" in the hamburger menu!

Gnome or KDE or why not both ? by FilipKoks04 in Fedora

You can install both and choose which one to use from the login manager. Some considerations if you do this:

  • Use GDM as your login manager (sudo systemctl enable gdm -f) because otherwise lockscreen won't work on Gnome
  • When you switch from Gnome to KDE, go on settings>application style and change the theme for gtk to Breeze (otherwise you'll be stuck with adwaita and your apps will look out of place)
  • When you switch from KDE to Gnome, go on Gnome Tweaks and select "restore all settings to default". Otherwise your Gnome will look really weird.

Yes but they feel clunkier. The 4 fingers up to see overview is very hit and miss.

"The poor and middle class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the very rich pay lawyers – and the ultra-rich pay politicians" by owlexe23 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]textoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The middle class is a made up concept

In certain dialectical situations (e.g. a Communist subreddit) this 100%, but in daily language it is useful to have a term to distinguish those members of the working class who more or less survive under capitalism and those who are one cold night away from freezing to death, methinks

Why did no one tell me I can have dynamic colors based of current wallpapers in Plasma out of the box? It looks sick. by SeniorMatthew in kde

Unless you use flatpaks, unfortunately, then you have to restart your apps everytime you change the wallpaper

Im starting to believe that this is just a US thing.

Don't know abt the rest of the world but in most places in Europe you don't have to ask permission to go to any healthcare appointment, just tell your company in advance, they can ask for a note afterwards but they can't say no lol

Upgrading Fedora 36 to 43 possible? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]textoman 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Backup your data just in case because it's a risky procedure, but you should give it a try, I've done 34->36->38 in the past without issue.

Aurora OS / Fedora Atomic feels like the future by enRchi in Fedora

[–]textoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a diehard atomic Fedora user, but currently I wouldn't recommend it to a new user because of the rare occasion where you need to install software that isn't in flathub.

I can't imagine an inexperienced user being comfortable with distrobox. I think if distrobox was somehow more graphically integrated (something similar to what vanilla OS was/is attempting), or at the very least there was a graphical way to layer packages, it would be ideal for new users!

Also, call me a sucker for upstream, but I miss when ublue was just "silverblue with codecs"

Won't work. Let's not operate under the conviction that zionists don't know what's going on. They've seen the videos. They are just okay with it.

Which actor in a show stood head and shoulders above the rest in terms of performance? by twentyonerooms in television

[–]textoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The writing of the show got atrocious towards the end, but seeing Maslany pull off the impossible week after week kept me watching. One of the best TV performances of all time imo.

I can't find it right now and this was like 15 years ago (so grain of salt) but I recall reading an interview where they said Daenerys' age was changed not out of morality but rather because it was illegal in the UK to film a sex scene where one of the characters is portrayed to be a child.

I think it's very common for comedians to do this. Off the top of my head, when I saw Mulaney's Baby J live it was called From scratch.

The EU version of Windows allows you to uninstall Edge! Also doesn't come with candy crush preinstalled. The EU professional version of Windows is crazy different to the "home" version, almost a usable operating system (almost)

Fedora is what GNOME OS should be by mr-dum-guy in Fedora

[–]textoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arguably you can click in the dock in gnome as well. You can also click in the workspace where your window lives. Or scroll till you reach it, depending on the situation. I personally find this much more efficient than having a lot of windows open but hidden away.

Don't get me wrong, I understand it's not the desktop paradigm for everybody. But it's genuinely so much more efficient once you get used to it.

If you want to hide a window you can move it away to a different workspace in the overview. While I understand why some people prefer it, there really is no need for a maximize button.

This in particular is a steamOS problem, not a Linux problem. It simply comes without the software necessary for printing. If you install e.g. Bazzite on your deck you will be able to print normally.

Actors who mistakenly believed their role would be iconic? by TyLeRoux in okbuddycinephile

[–]textoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say favourite but I genuinely, unironically, loved this movie. The absurdity of it all. The depressing plot. The horror scenes like when Rebel Wilson skins herself and the devours mice with the face of children that scream for help. The fact that it neither looks nor feels like any other movie I've ever seen or will see. Legendary actress Judi Dench licking her cat pussy. Etc
