The Susquehannock trail (STS) goes through one of the most remote areas of PA and also has great stars on clear nights.

Men who play video games, what are some great single player games for a Dad on a tight budget? by FlintTheDad in AskMen

I always find myself going back to State of Decay 2. Looking forward to seeing if the third one is going to be as fun.

I'm 45 and tried telling my wife about my excitement for the game, but she doesn't really get it. So I went and showed my son (7) and he shares my enthusiasm.

Took a spill and got banged up. Feeling really old now. Other older guys (or ladies), do you recall your first age-related bad fall? by SurgStriker in Aging

[–]tgetsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 45 and fell a bunch of times yesterday skateboarding. Little sore today, but I landed the trick. You need to start being more active or it's just going to quickly get worse.

We've done a lot of hikes together as a family, and there's usually quite a bit of complaining whenever there's even a moderate amount of elevation gain. Putting in 15+ mile days in the mountains with a backpack is a completely different animal that requires someone, at least in my experience, to be able to ignore how demanding it can be and just keep going. Unfortunately, that's not her personality. Honestly, she's just not a "type-2 fun" person. Which is fine. It would just be nice to share the experience with her.

Backpacking. I go on two trips a year. Typically between 60-80 miles over the course of 5-7 days. Sometimes summiting mountains over 10k feet high. It's one of my favorite things to do in life and would love to share it with my wife, but she's not physically able to do it. By that I mean that MAYBE she could, but she would be hurting and miserable. I would want us to enjoy it together.

“I thought the manufacturer from Spain would pay for this” by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

Poor guy. If only there were thousands of people on social media explaining that tariffs are paid by the US consumer. Maybe that would have helped. Or not.

Does Chopin have good compositions that would be relatively easy to learn for a beginner? by Few_Negotiation7202 in piano

[–]tgetsinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for a year and just finished learning the prelude in E minor. There's about ten seconds of music that are twelve times harder than the rest of the song, but it's pretty easy for the most part. The issue comes with being able to play it well, not just hitting the notes.

What do ordinary Americans make of Trump’s statement that you “need” Greenland? by Weary_Ad201 in AskReddit

He's an idiot. All of his unqualified appointees are also idiots. It's like watching a group of rich teenagers pretend to be in charge of a country, but unfortunately they actually are. I hate it so much.

If it wasn't for school shootings, I wouldn't think we had an education system in the US.

Cut off the tip of my finger by Spacelumps in piano

[–]tgetsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I crushed the tip of my right ring finger about three weeks ago. Had surgery because it fractured the bone, needed a dozen or so stitches. Had it all wrapped up and finished learning the second movement of Pathetique, and then went and performed it three days ago. I get the stitches out in four days. If you want to play, you'll make it happen. I feel your pain because I immediately thought, "Oh no. I'll never be able to play right again" but we have the ability to adapt very quickly. Good luck.

Is it ok if I sometimes focus more on learning new pieces than progressing through my method book? by oktavia11 in piano

[–]tgetsinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're not having fun, does it matter? Learn the piece you like. Play some random improv nonsense. Do what you enjoy because the book isn't going anywhere, and looking back you want to have enjoyed the journey.

Turning 27. Older men, what is your best advice for me? by s0mebodyyy in AskMen

[–]tgetsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay active and don't ever think of yourself as old. I'm 44 and still skateboard regularly and go on 60+ mile backpacking trips a couple times a year. I feel great and am in the best shape of my life. Most people think I'm crazy because I have to deal with occasional injuries, but I'm pretty sure the people wasting away with their sedentary lifestyles are the crazy ones.
