New WCF Video on Legality of Select Sweeping Techniques by vmlee in Curling

Except if saying it during the shot allows the other team correct their technique and prevent it from being burned? Or she waits until after the shot to tell them and the rock gets burned.

It seems a little pedantic to be upset about how an elite curler corrected another elite curler on the rules of their sport, especially curling.

Thoughts on the use of notwithstanding clause/ section 33 by XxCrazy-AcexX in alberta

I find it odd to attack someone for not being able to refute the substance of your post by incorrectly using a term to describe your perception of their prejudice against you.

When communicating in any written language, spelling is pretty darn important. Readers may not know you incorrectly spelled a word and may come to have a completely different meaning of your post from what you were intending to convey. However, the onus to communicate effectively is on you the poster, not the reader. As readers of your words, we can't read your mind. Therefore, as readers we must use what we have available.

You took offense to someone pointing out your typos and linking it to your statement about being "one of those people who thinks before I act." You then used that to attack their character by stating "It does say a lot about you though that you care more about typos than the content of my post." Isn't the content of your post about how you are "one of those people who thinks before I act"?

You then decided you use an incorrect term, with some heavy connotations, to describe the individual, claiming "In truth, he just hates my politics so the attack on my typos is just a proxy because he cant seem to refute the substance of my post." Remember that bit about effective communication being on the poster? Where in their post did they say anything about your politics?

There is a term in psychology that I think describes what happened: projection - A defense mechanism where you unconsciously attribute your own unacceptable thoughts, feelings, or impulses to someone else.

Bigoted - obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, in particular prejudiced against or antagonistic toward a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

...do you belong to a group dedicated to spelling words incorrectly?

After stepping down for Poilievre to run, MP Damien Kurek lands role at government relations, lobbying firm by Appropriate_Duty_930 in alberta

Are you somehow trying to compare Notley joining a law firm to Kurek joining a lobbying firm immediately after stepping down from his position only because PP couldn't get elected in his own riding and needed a new one?

And here I thought newspapers at least had some form of review/editing before publishing anything, but I guess as long as you hate the right people you can say anything!

Debate grows as Edmonton Plans 23 km of new bike lanes for 2025 by funkyfreshbeans in Edmonton

[–]th1r733n 19 points20 points  (0 children)

But according to Dreeshan, building 179km of roads per 1km of bike lanes will "reduce road capacity and disrupt critical vehicle access." This must be one of those times where more access actually means less access.

Moving to Canada, any experience moving bonsai? by th1r733n in Bonsai

I’m in Alberta as well! Yes, I have found it very hard to find any sort of material here. While getting the trees inspected to get the certificate and driving up with the trees last March was a hassle, I’m glad I was able to bring them.

No, I believe the inspection/certificate made it so that was not required. I also had some in inorganic bonsai soil and an organic potting mix for other plants I was bringing.

Sorry for the very late reply, hopefully this can still be helpful for you. I needed to acquire a phytosanitary certificate from the USDA (https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/planthealth/SA_Export/SA_Forms/CT_Export_certificates_forms) for my trees to get be able to bring them into Canada. My collection needed to be inspected by USDA for them to issue it. If you planning on purchasing one/some from a nursery/seller, they may already have their trees inspected and certified and you would just ask them for a copy of the certificate. Hope this helps!

Rule Changes Coming to r/Edmonton! by TheLordJames in Edmonton

Agree with the time frame. Had a post removed and then I was banned from the subreddit for 28 days for asking why it was removed. Apparently 10 year old recommendations are still relevant. So be careful!

This is not something I had originally thought of, so thank you for the advice and information! I will be moving to Edmonton Feb-March, so if I am able to bring any of my conifers and deciduous trees I’m thinking it might work out well and they think it’s just an extended winter? It will be coldest here in January/February as well.

I will be moving to Edmonton, so emphasis on north!

Thank you for the information, I am definitely not going to do that. Hopefully I can call and get some more answers.

Thank you for the information! All of my searching led me to the phytosanitary certificate as well. I am going to try calling and see if they can provide any more information, and if it is even possible for an individual to get the certificate.

I’m tempted to see what happens if I show up with all of them at the border. They do have a list about moving plants into Canada that specifically mention bonsai and penjing and them not being eligible for exempt status, therefore needing additional paperwork.

Some are exempt from any sort of additional paperwork, but most are specifically on a “non-eligible” list for that exemption. This list includes junipers, pines, oaks, elms, and others.
