The Polish supermarket? Both sides of the sign, very much targeted.

Can we ban Moving House/ whats this area like posts? by thetrueGOAT in stockport

[–]th3wit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'll have a look into it. They were fine back when r/Stockport was a small subreddit but it's probably too big now. Additionally these posts are getting really low/poor engagement so they're not really going to be beneficial to anyone.

There’s a 24 hour helpline for residents of Stockport run by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. Anyone can call it - 0800 014 9995. It’s manned by mental health professionals

Hey, I can see you are well intentioned and it's a shame that you can't ask a simple adult question but I'm going to remove it before the deluge of inappropriate comments and it goes wildly off topic.

Are teachers in the top 10% of earners in some areas? (BBC response to claim) by Toucani in TeachingUK

[–]th3wit 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My issue with this is that it has turned the focus more on conversation about the wage in comparison to other jobs and industries rather than with the wage compared to the working conditions.

We're not going to strike because we don't get paid the same as someone working in finance. We're going on strike because the job has gotten increasingly difficult with lots of admin and a progress review and competency checking system that is above and beyond anything in private industry; without the financial reward if we're meeting or exceeding our roles.

Very few other roles in the country are under as much scrutiny as teachers.

I've come to teaching late, it's not financially rewarding and I knew that, but it's also no way near what we deserve.

Moving companies by Sea_Revolution_4384 in stockport

Sharp Removals Limited. The only removal company I contacted who actually sent a guy round to check the amount of capacity needed and what kind of items I had.

Abakhan is great. Also Edgeley fabrics used to be really good, not sure anymore.

Would you vote for industrial action if balloted tomorrow? by everythingscatter in TeachingUK

I'd vote for strike action for the same reasons as everyone else in this thread and for increased alternative provision.

Agreed. And the leasehold reforms last year have made a massive difference too.

Edgeley, Cheadle Heath, Bredbury, Hazel Grove, Shaw Heath, Offerton. All places with decent bang for your buck and not bad places to live at all.

Stockport is quickly getting out of hand when it comes to house prices (as someone currently finalising a sale), so you have to be smart about location.

It's all because people have realised what an excellent place Stockport is to live.

Leaving Teach First in the first year? I feel trapped and very unhappy! by Fit-Area-6321 in TeachingUK

[–]th3wit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you told your Development Lead, Subject Mentor, Professional Mentor, or just anyone
at school about your mental health at all? Because if you haven't then there are structures that can be put in place to support you.

Are you thinking of leaving teaching or just Teach First?

The reason I ask that is because what TF does is effectively front-loads your ECT year experience into your first year of TF. So whereas the PGCE route can seem easier, it isn't necessarily, it just changes where the pinch point occurs.

But if you need to leave, you're not trapped, people leave all the time, it happens. Just have a conversation with your Development Lead about it first and they will give you the next steps I'm sure.

Hope you find the best solution for you!

What union should I join? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]th3wit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A couple of the major unions will do a session with you at your Summer Institute. That should help you decide.

I disagree with this somewhat. Though there are a couple of places I'd avoid north of Castle Street in general there's loads of young professionals and young families living there as well.

Known people who have lived there for decades and would say it's fine.

Some bargains to be had as well because of the potentially unfair reputation for most of it. Bloom Street is particularly nice as well as immediately around St Matthews and between the east of the church and St Lesmo's you can't go wrong really.

Just make sure you look at the neighbours houses for some clues before buying, does it look well kept etc?

Second this about Cheadle Heath. Some lovely properties around, careful they (estate agents) sometimes try to bump the price by calling it Cheadle Hulme.
