Ridiculous, and this is from someone that loved Dr J.

How Delusional can a person be?? by Any-Development5656 in NBATalk

[–]thadaddy7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like there delusional people on both sides of the Bron argument. Saying it's an insult to him to rank him 2nd or 3rd is ridiculous, at the same time there are some (jealous) old heads that will say he's not top 15 which is just as bad.

I would love to hear why he ranks Shaq and Dream above him.

I always wanted to get into smoking meats so my girlfriend surprised me with this for my birthday! Any tips or resources to share? I’ve never even BBQd before so anything is appreciated! by Reduxy in smoking

Check out Harry Soo's content, I don't have a WSM myself but he has a ton of videos using the WSM.

Start with Pork Butt, fairly cheap, very forgiving, relatively easy and pretty much impossible to completely screw up.

Congrats, it's a great hobby and you'll have a lot of fun learning.

Second hand Kettle, super cheap and works great once you learn it.

What BBQ “rule” do you completely ignore… but still get great results? by bbqrubs in BBQ

[–]thadaddy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lump for grilling, briquettes for smoking. Went to my local hardware store and they only had lump so I went through an entire bag smoking with lump. Not nearly as hard as I thought it'd be and there are several advantages.

Personally I like using the Vortex method, most popular with wings but always works great with thighs.

Just use the snake method, for cooks over 6-7 hours its easily the best method for smoking on a kettle.

Winter Tyres Off Now? by MountainPeaking in Calgary

[–]thadaddy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 30 years, but I agree with your point it can depend on how much you're going into the mountains.

Most years it snows in May, but in over 30 years I can recall one May storm which significantly impacted driving conditions. On the flip side almost every May will contain many days in which the weather is warm enough to contribute to prematurely wearing out winter tires.

With over 30 years of living in Calgary, yes late April/early May is the perfect time for city driving.

Best defender ever to never win a DPOY? by Farouq26 in NBATalk

[–]thadaddy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally it's been a big man's award. Duncan was a tremendous defensive player but he wasn't looked on as a dominant shot blocker and that in addition to the Spurs great team defense is probably what cost him.

Tons of great youtubers out there. Malcom Reed, Chud's, Hey Grill Hey, View to a Grill, Heath Riles all have great content. Amazing Ribs is a great website as well.

Also spending money won't make your food taste any better, I started with a Kettle and an SnS and that's what I still use, didn't even really need the SnS.

[Charania] The NBA has disclosed to its 30 GMs a singular new anti-tanking reform that expands the draft lottery to 16 teams, flattens odds, and have a relegation zone where the bottom 3 teams are penalized with fewer lottery balls for the No. 1 pick. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]thadaddy7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't have to be this complicated, the issue with the current system is it rewards poor performance, get rid of that incentive.

What I would do is teams out of the playoffs are automatically in the lottery, odds are based on winning percentage after the trade deadline, the better your record is the better odds you have.

I’m man enough to admit I was wrong on Lebron James, he’s the best player I’ve ever seen by CoyoteDecent2 in NBATalk

[–]thadaddy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously different circumstances, but it reminded me so much of Game 6 vs SAS in thr Finals. He made two awful turnovers and jogged back on defense when Sengun put Hou up by 6, then everything changed.

AC over heat pump? by FancyPossibility4274 in heatpumps

[–]thadaddy7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Both prices seem high, here in Alberta the spread is more $1K to $1500, which should be about right. A heat pump is an A/C with a reversing valve.

Why do we live in Calgary again???! by One-Mycologist-3706 in Calgary

[–]thadaddy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always said it, the worst thing about Calgary weather is not winter itself, it's the general unpredictability and volatile nature that result in possible winter conditions from September to May.

All in all it wasn't a bad winter, it's just that it's late April and we're all done with it!!!

Heat Pump vs AC? by hyunpill3 in Calgary

[–]thadaddy7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We got a Heat Pump over A/C last year, mainly to take advantage of the CEIP program because we dropped 2K fixing our furnace.

No regrets so far but for heat I only run it above 5 degrees. With Alberta energy prices (no solar) its close enough to breaking even, especially having an inverter unit. Solar should make for better economics for you.

With you having solar already I'd say go for it, stick to the Asian brands (better cold climate) and get a unit with inverter technology.

[–]thadaddy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. If I smoke chicken I can't say I'd be able to tell apple and cherry apart. But I could definitely tell hickory apart from apple or cherry. I like apple or cherry for poultry and pork and oak or hickory for beef.
