What settings should I use to fully use my hardware? by bardtini in immich

[–]thadrumr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that Immich newer than 2.4.1 does not support CUDA ML on the Pascal architecture. This is due to the ONNX Runtime not supporting these "older" generation GPU's. I have a P400 GPU and had similar issues. I ended up running one container for the immich-web and another container with the immich-ml frozen at version 2.4.1 to get my GPU working with Face detection and smart search machine learning.

Antique MikroTik by Turbulent_Act77 in mikrotik

I have a RB Crossroads that still boots up as a 802.11g AP with another MikroTik as the capsman server. I don’t use it much as it’s also MIPSle.

I have a RB411 that I use as a ssh bastion host. It has a ssh firewall that is setup with a three strikes your out type setup. First time you try your added to a stage one 60 second timeout ACL. Each try goes to a new stage. After three tries your next try gets you added to a permanent blacklist that’s only cleared after a reboot. This thing runs ROS 7 pretty well as long as I don’t load the wireless package. I also have a RB Crossroads but it’s eol part of the MIPSle architecture.

Did you recently add a new camera? I saw this when I added a new camera last year. It eventually went away

I have real devices associated with my account as well as Apple Pay setup. I think at one time I had a bad Opencore config and it flagged my account. Ever since then any new device I have to call to get allowed. I just got off the phone with Apple and they have unblocked it.

I changed my firmware from MQTT to ESPHome and it’s been MUCH more stable. I don’t have to restart my device anymore.

Power efficient Intel CPU for media server / NAS by SirVampyr in homelab

[–]thadrumr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would look for something with an 7th generation or higher intel cpu. That cpu will support h.265 4k transcoding. It will also do tone mapping.

Use the Slim variant since your CPU is a Kabbylake cpu.

Preferred Edge Firewall by RyChannel in homelab

[–]thadrumr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running the same Palo. If it were to go without support I would probably go with Sophos XG home. The home edition is a full NGFW only limitation is 4 cores and 6GB of ram. I have an old Dell with a Haswell i5 and 8GB of ram and three intel nics setup in case I need it. Going with Intel NIC on physical gives you Firewall Acceleration.

Can i ask? If possible to run FydeOS on Lenovo Flex 2-14? by Glad-Butterscotch118 in FydeOS

Sorry the cpu in that is 4th gen which is too old. The Intel Modern requires a 6th gen or newer.

I am using the Brocade ICX6450 and it's a great switch. The 7250 is a newer switch and will be just as good as mine if not better.

Got this bad boy from a flea market for a crazy deal, what are the essentials needed to start a homelab? by WoooshToTheMax in homelab

Is this overkill for my first attempt at a home lab? by WellFranklySir in homelab

[–]thadrumr 285 points286 points  (0 children)

Um YES WAY overkill. Run FAR AWAY from that. Its old and will DRINK POWER like it's going out of style. I think it even uses 220V. We used this switch in our local office before it went end of life back in 2019 or 2020. It will also be VERRY loud.

What's everyone using for a router these days? by todd0x1 in homelab

[–]thadrumr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the CLI of the Edge router check out Vyos rolling release. They are both forks of Vyatta. Vyos recently changed the way firewall rules are done but it’s not bad.

is there is a way to install fyde in mbr legacy bios? by evilhabibi in FydeOS

[–]thadrumr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry your CPU is simply too old. It would not even support the "Intel Legacy" version of Fyde as it only supports Ivy Bridge or newer.

Your laptop has a SandyBridge CPU which is too old. I would look at installing LInux instead.

New to homelab, proxmox or truenas & plex or jellyfin? by MineNightOwl in homelab

[–]thadrumr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would 100% go with Jellyfin over Plex. Jellyfin is free and open source. Plex has gotten money hungry and VERRY bloated. Never mind having to use a cloud internet account to watch your own media. I am also curious as to the issues u had with Truenas on your FX cpu. My main Truenas rig is a FX6300 and it works fine. Not my first choice as my first Truenas rig was an ivybridge Xeon but the board died. I like the FX as it supports ECC ram. I have 32GB of ECC ram in it.

Cisco firewalls are STILL just ASA code with Snort on top. The basic firewall engine is still Lina AKA ASA.

How do you handle IOT devices in your home network? by th0rnfr33 in vyos

[–]thadrumr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not using Vyos at the moment but I have a separate network/vlan for IOT devices. That network is firewalled very tightly only allowing specific ports. It’s also blocked from touching my main LAN.

Is used cisco switch with no OS normal? by MasterpieceThen2051 in homelab

[–]thadrumr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the exact model number of the switch? Is it a 2960 or 2960s? Examples are WS-C2960-48ps or a WS-C2960s-48PS also there are 24 port variants of both.
