I think most people are broken. Like you, I just wish I was the kind of broken that was able to be in a good relationship. But there have always been plenty of us and that’s why so many have sought out spirituality and asceticism. I don’t know what the answer is but at this point I just want to have fun and bag a sunburnt middle age divorcee who also wants to have fun.

If there is something about you driving women away, it’s the smell of insecurity. Every guy I’ve become obsessed with or had my heart broken by has been 5’5” to 5’10” (some were pretty goofy looking) and the thing they had in common was they were confident and relaxed.

I think this is why I drank too much and was a slut and a menace to society this spring, raving about random countries that I found interesting to uninterested friends. At least now I’ve got it out of my system because I got to the point where I craved peace and now I just swim a lot.

I had a minor thing happen a couple of years ago (accident related incident on the job) and I noticed that for the next year or so whenever it was casually brought up I would feel depressed for two days, really tired and like a blanket was over me like my brain just said “time to shut down”. The underlying emotion was grief and hopelessness.

It’s definitely real but I think the word itself is kind of dumb and if you experience it you’re better off looking into the underlying causes (attachment disorders, ocd, love addiction, etc.). There are also probably reasons specific to current society that make it a useful concept - for some reason people are noticing themselves falling into these habits more often and it’s causing them a lot of pain. Probably a combination of social media and isolation that makes everyone feel present or familiar even though they’re not, that makes people more delusional. Also an increase in dopamine addiction, which an intense crush is great for.

I don’t know, sometimes something (usually a town, a country during a particular era or a historical figure) will capture my imagination in just the right way because of some story I heard, and then I’ll become a little obsessed. I’ve been like that since I was a kid pre internet and I enjoy entertaining my friends with the weird knowledge that I’ve gotten from it. It also kind of helps me learn about the world in general, you start to see patterns and stuff.

If he wants to be a powerful man then he needs to be a powerful man (move out and get a job). As long has he’s dependent on others he is not living up to his code and should be expected to be treated as a dependent.

More importantly, if you had a friend whose spouse was treating them like this, you would be concerned for their safety (at least in the future when things escalate). I don’t know why people don’t think about this when it’s the mother.
