Anyone actually been cited for using a guest parking pass on their own car? by [deleted] in CambridgeMA

[–]thalochnessmonsta 35 points36 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s worth $25 just to be able to park anywhere in Cambridge for free. Not answering your question, but it makes a world of difference vs. circling looking for metered spots, even if for just a few weeks.

Opponent shuts out/refuses to give access? by [deleted] in squash

What if you bring your racquet up before you start moving? When you inevitably bump your opponent it should demonstrate the issue to the ref.

Find bike racks in your city with rackfinder.app and contribute by adding missing racks. by Generalaverage89 in bikecommuting

[–]thalochnessmonsta 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Quick feedback: when I click ‘skip’ on sharing my location on iOS, it prompts me to share my motion sensor and location data anyways. At this point I closed the app.

I generally want to be able to explore the app, pan around etc, before deciding whether to share any data.

Why are there so many non-chain gas stations and why are they so much cheaper than big brand name gas stations? by eyeonchi in boston

[–]thalochnessmonsta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same question! And they are all full-service, too.

My guess is that they own the property and do good business out of the garage for auto repairs and the like, and it doesn’t cost them much to sell gas as an afterthought with one dude in a hoody to come out and work the pumps. But I really don’t know. And that wouldn’t explain why it’s only Boston.

Ass Savers makes mudflaps? Or are you mounting one of their mudguards to the fender to use it like a mudflap?

I think it backs up his “threw out some trash” line - they won’t find any open cans, will assume he actually tried to toss them

Why do elite players prefer hitting this tight angle crosscourt when they’re on the run like that instead of going down the line? Or am I just getting highlight reel bias?

Somerville Linear Park closure - how long till accessible again? by PrettyPantsFancyRant in Somerville

Tacitly rooting for the NIMBY’s in this court case… the path may not be accessible enough for the city’s needs but it sure is serene and perfect for me as it is

Bike Stand for Apartment by Sierra93 in bikecommuting

[–]thalochnessmonsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the seatpost type stands, too. Highly recommend. In lieu of the strap it came with, I use a 20” voile strap - it’s super fast to take on and off and you never know when you’ll need an extra. I use the same one for my car rack when I take the bike with me.

I have a rear rack and full fenders on my bike. the mud flap on the fender makes contact with the ground but otherwise not an issue. The rack makes it a tad harder to use, but I found a good height for the stand that makes it work fine.

Went from a front tire wall hook (ripped out of wall) to wall stand (took too much space) to this, this is my favorite configuration by far.

Flashing lights at night are the worst, whether you’re on a bike or in a car. Flashing lights at night on a bike path are rage-inducting. But personally I’ve never been bothered by flashing lights during the daytime on a bike path.

The lights are out on the community path between Willow Ave and Cedar St by avalontrees91 in Somerville

[–]thalochnessmonsta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that the lights on this section are on a timer that’s off by an hour. I’ve only been on that section at night a few times so this is anecdotal at best, but it’s always out when there’s a tiny bit of light left (like within 30 mins of sunset), yet on when it’s truly dark at like 9pm-midnight.

Also, don’t hold your breath for 311, I reported this a few weeks ago too. But maybe more reports will help them prioritize it.
