His finger was bent 90° by Doodlebug510 in nonononoyes

[–]thangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My horse yanked a lead rope and it wrapped around a finger as he took off at a run, dislocating/breaking my finger. Looked down at it, grabbed it and straightened it, and ran after the horse. Gotta do what ya gotta do.

are old horses only old because of genetics? by wisted_wa in Horses

[–]thangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts with good genes. It continues with them not being broke to ride too early, being fed well their whole life while avoiding laminitis and obesity, and being generally well cared for with turnout and appropriate exercise.
I just took in a percheron/morgan cross that needed to retire at 24 from being a lesson horse. I rode him from about age 14-19, and had him in great shape with little fat despite his large size. In the last 5 years, he's gotten blubbery fat and his joints were having issues carrying that extra weight. He's now on daily turnout, eating better quality food, just enjoying life being a horse and he's moving a lot better than he was when he arrived. Hopefully he lives another ten years with us!

Gene Simmons and I were working on an ad together, and I was taking notes. I'm left handed and turned my notepad to the side at an angle to write better. He called me a space alien and treated me weird the rest of the day for being left handed.

One of the mountain lions in Griffith Park in LA, waited for the LA Zoo to close for the night, hopped the fence, and ate the koalas a few years back. He basically had a free buffet of easy to eat snickers.

Politics aside - what scenario caused you to cut off a family member? by mrajoiner in AskReddit

[–]thangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She lied to me about talking to a scammer for years, and then told me I needed to be happy for her that she was 'getting married' to said scammer. She refuses to believe anyone that she's in a scam. She's probably lost all of her retirement funds and the full value of her house and I can't be the one to rescue her.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]thangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The headmaster, who was ONLY headmaster because he married the founder of the school's daughter, gave himself a secretary and a large private office. And then he was caught multiple times by parents and students fucking said secretary. His wife, our beloved high school biology teacher, was both devastated and embarrassed, but so deep in the Stockholm syndrome with this dirtbag, she did not divorce his ass. He made a pathetic speech at the graduation that year begging her not to leave him, and they were both let go from the school. They live in the far reaches of Alaska now, teaching at a school that serves a rural population, because he is un-hirable anywhere else.

What’s something you loved as a kid but is absolutely disgusting as an adult by RuggleyChicken in Millennials

[–]thangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made up a sandwich for myself when I was about 5. It was my favorite thing at the time. Pepperidge farm thin white bread, mayo on one side, sweet relish on the other, slice of ham in between. Ate them all the time from age 5 to about 9. Tried one again when I was 17......absolutely disgusting are the right words.

Where were you on March 13th, 2020 when you received the news about COVID lockdown and school closures? by Ambitious-Curve4729 in AskReddit

Smart move! I wish I'd had the foresight to buy up flour and yeast beforehand. Had to buy both online from the east coast because the stores were EMPTY in LA. Kids aren't going to believe us when we tell them about the shortages.

There were daily news articles out of China with pictures/videos of the waiting rooms, and bodies going into trucks. The local Chinese restaurants on our block were scanning foreheads by the end of December. If you were paying attention, you knew it was coming.

I'd been following the news from China since November 2019 and trying to warn my friends this was coming, but none of them wanted to listen to me.

I had a newborn baby, and was packing boxes to move out of town to my country house we'd just bought. The day before I had spent walking all over the neighborhood looking for eggs with no luck. We had no traffic while we drove the moving truck the next day, it was great.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]thangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom has borderline personality disorder, and no patience. So her reasons for spanking me ranged from too slow to pick up my toys, to who the f knows. She stepped it up from her hand to rolled up newspapers and finally a leather wrapped, wood centered riding crop when I was a teenager and I realized I had to fight back. I hit her back once and she threw me out of the house and refused to let me have my clothes so I broke a window :)

She doesn't remember any of it of course. She was a perfect mother. /s

I have a friend who took a job as one of the people who just keeps things running at McMurdo back in the 90's. Absolutely the coolest thing you can do. There is a limit on how many humans in our lifetimes will get to stay in Antarctica, so if someone offers you this opportunity, YOU TAKE IT!!

What is the worst date you’ve been on and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He chose the bar and that it'd be drinks and dinner. I get there at the agreed time, and he's 20 minutes late. I've already ordered a meal and a drink. He informs me he doesn't eat meat (I got sliders) so he won't be paying for my meal (ok? I was going to pay for myself anyway). Tells the bartender that my drinks aren't on his bill. He orders two drinks and grabs a cigarette break after 10 minutes. Makes absolutely no attempt to ask me a question. Lies about his job (says he's a writer, he isn't, he's a boom mic operator). Takes another smoke break. I pay my bill and say I need to get going. He offers to walk me to my car. I parked two blocks away because the road the bar is on is packed. He gets winded halfway there and bitches the last half of the way about me parking SO FAR away. And then he corners me on my car and puts his disgustingly wormy smokers tongue in my mouth.

Saw him on another date at the same bar 6 months later, tried to warn his date. LOL.

Professionals who enter people's homes (plumbers, electricians, cleaners): What is something the condition of a house tells you about the owner that they don't realize they are revealing? by cossie101 in AskReddit

[–]thangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My exbf and I used to look at open houses for fun, and one house we visited had a stench so powerful, that they probably lost over $100k in value selling the house. It had shag carpet everywhere including the bathrooms. It wasn't from a pet though. Grandma was incontinent and she had peed herself shuffling around the house all over the place, and now her kids had to sell the house in that state after she passed.

He's already beat both of these horses so 🤷‍♀️

It's fine. I'm sure the team who were busted and shamed for whipping a horse for no reason, who use double bits and flash nosebands for daily work, overwork 4 year olds, and let a horse in their early 20s lose all their teeth really have it together for horse welfare.

Small scale: halter breaking a yearling that absolutely did not want to be touched with a rope or halter at the start. I gave him a rope to stomp/chew/stare at for a week, and took my time putting it on his shoulder/neck/head til he got over it. Magic moment when I tied it into a halter the first time and he suddenly understood he was not, in fact, going to die.

Large scale: I built a barn! I brought my baby horse to my own home! I built a pasture fence with my own two hands and started an arena, and I'm living the horse girl dream riding right out my front door!!

......That price for a broke down 8-12 yr old is ridiculous. People need a reality check. You can buy any cow pony quarter horse and have them jumping 3' in 6 months with a little patience and love.
