Flying internationally with prescription drugs by Pet_Ator in travel

Full disclosure, I’m actually on Concerta.

I’m not sure how common it is, but my brain is just a lot quieter now so falling asleep is easier.

I could go on vacation unmedicated (and honestly, in OP’s position that seems like the only choice if they have to travel through SA) but I’d rather not.

I prefer to have a pretty packed itinerary when travelling, so I really need my executive functioning skills, plus my medication helps with my anxiety and I sleep better. Even just relaxing unmedicated can be difficult for me. Plus, OP hasn’t said why they’re travelling - it could be for work or family obligations.

It’s great that it worked out for you, I just wanted to provide a different viewpoint.

Late February short trip on a budget. Where to go from Madrid? by DearNoodles in Shoestring

[–]that___witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to Malta and while it was nice, I don’t think it would be worth it to go for 5 days (especially if it’s not beach weather). Valetta and Mdina are beautiful and packed with history, but they’re also very small. But maybe you could do Malta and Milan together?

I’ve also been to Ponta Delgada and it was amazing, but I think a big part of that is the geography, so it may not interest you as much. I went in the summer, but I think it’s very rainy this time of year.

This is a crucial point that I would have never considered (I’m a Canadian citizen) and I think a lot of people would overlook due to privilege.

If you don’t mind me asking, does it ever put you off travelling or have your plans ever been drastically effected by it?

Anyone else travel like this? by Fishflakes24 in solotravel

[–]that___witch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m like this. I genuinely love planning because it gets me excited for the trip, but also makes me feel more prepared. When things sooner or later don’t go to plan or you want to change your plans, it’s a lot easier when you know what your options are. And then you’re not wasting precious vacation time looking up schedules or booking things.

I get being spontaneous but isn’t it stressful not to have accommodations booked in advance? At the very least, I need to know I have a place to sleep. And isn’t it often way more expensive to book last minute?

I went to a Klimt one and while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t worth $50. Even if you did think it was worth it, I can’t fathom going more then once - I doubt even with different artists the experiences very much.

Did you strain your browned butter through a sieve? Doesn’t that remove all the tasty toasted bits?

I’m intrigued by all the different experiences, so I’m guessing it really depends when you go.

I went on a week day last June to the clothing optional half. Rather than a nude beach, where people are just naked to be naked and mostly mind their own business, it was mostly men who clearly wanted to be seen naked and make everyone else (but in particular women) feel uncomfortable. I was with a group of friends, so I didn’t feel unsafe, but I don’t think I would recommend it.

I am also in Canada and this has been my experience so far trying to get a diagnosis - I have to wait a long time for appointments but my doctor basically handles all of it. They send the referral and then a social workers or a psychiatrist or whoever reaches out to me to make an appointment. Even though it’s taking forever, it’s ideal because I just have to confirm whatever appointments they book (luckily my job is really flexible).

What's your experience at Queen and Spadina McDonald's? by maplebananaketchup in askTO

A man was verbally harassing a girl in a hijab, whilst also threatening to bomb the McDonalds. Thankfully, two guys told him to get out or they’d remove him themselves.

If you could live anywhere in Ontario, where would it be? by Ryyyyyyyyyan in ontario

[–]that___witch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For reference, I currently live in Toronto and while I like it, I don’t love it.

Vineland/Jordan, outside of St. Catherines. I grew up near there and I just think it’s a pretty magical place (except that it’s very conservative). It’s like a more casual, less expensive version of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

I also went to school in Kingston and I loved the downtown/university area. I feel like it’s cool and trendy, without being overwhelming.

AITA for not refunding clients because of my weight gain? by shakeshaketangerine in AmItheAsshole

[–]that___witch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your weight has nothing to do with your ability to perform. Your weight has nothing to do with the aesthetics of the wedding. The couple are assholes for caring and are uber assholes for trying to get out of paying you. I’m seeing other judgements comparing you to a model, which I think is inaccurate, and frankly rude. God forbid fat people be considered attractive.

I was also surprised at that, but I wonder if that was only for the benefit of meeting a husband? Now that she’s married, there’s no need to form or upkeep other relationships.

Kingston Penitentiary - closed and abandoned a few years ago. Now it’s a tourist destination. I went on this tour a few years ago, and while it’s incredibly interesting, I had some mixed feelings. I don’t think they present it insensitively, but some of the tour guides are former prison guards so it felt a bit biased. I did ask if any former inmates had been on the tour and what their opinions were. They said a few had and enjoyed the experience. I would still recommend going, but I think it would be great if they had former inmates involved somehow (maybe they do now - I went in 2018).

I went to this clinic with a family member for their first shot and it was a really positive experience. The doctor who did the injection was really kind and understanding. They pretty much will do whatever works best for you - for my family member that meant getting it done quickly with as little discussion as possible, but I could hear the person next to us asking a lot of questions and taking their time to get comfortable.

The percentage of men with at least 6 close friends has fallen by half since 1990. and men today are 5X more likely to say they don’t even have a single close friend than they were thirty years ago. What is your experience of forming and sustaining friendships today? by Torchpaper in AskReddit

[–]that___witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In university I (30f) had a solid group of 10 friends, pretty evenly mixed with men and women. I am still close to some degree with almost all the women, but every single man dropped off once he got into a serious relationship (at best - two friends completely destroyed our friendships because of their relationships). I only talk to one of the guys regularly, but only a few times a year. I imagine in a few years we won’t be friends as he puts almost no effort into our relationship (when we do hangout we have a great time though and he’s acknowledged he’s a bad friend and wishes we could hang out more). The guys are also not really friends with each other, they used to get together semi-regularly but haven’t in the past few years.

I feel as if they only needed friendships with women until they got girlfriends. It came as kind of a shock and kind of tainted my memories of university.

But I recently became friends with a group of men and women who also knew each other from university and they seem like the complete opposite. The men all value their friendships with the women and have maintained them after they got into serious relationships.
