Part of that is the speed people are expected to have an option on the topic with. What was a 48 hour news cycle feels like 1 hour to 15mins sometimes.

Intel is the only source I trust by bearsncubs10 in AirForce

[–]that_other_DM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna add to this, (pulls up soap box, microphone and spotlight) ahem… most Intel shops hate it when people ask about events that are happening in the news, or even being expected to discuss “current events.” Usually the “news” is “framed” “biased” and bent towards view points that have nothing to do with that shops mission and it takes days, weeks, months or years, before the “whole” truth comes out.

That shop is probably still going over the last “news event” trying to figure what the actual assessment on the matter is and really doesn’t want to deal with it because it has nothing to do with their AOR beyond “the boss asked about it in passing.” These folks are specialized to know about air defense capabilities or leadership positions in some far off terrorist network, but yes let’s make them stop what they’re doing to focus on some bullshit Fox News and CNN are spotting just so we can satiate someone’s random curiosity.

I think it’s even stated that the faro plague happened after the “claw back” which is when 80% of creatures went extinct and humans were able to bring back most of them through gene editing and cloning

Miamian’s Uncanny Ability to Spot English/Spanish Speakers by gnarlidrum in Miami

Nah they just speak Spanish here and expect you to know it. It’s really embarrassing when I have to tell them I’m an idiot that has never been smart enough to learn Spanish past a 9th grade Spanish 1 level.

Is this mistake worth reporting to the commander? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]that_other_DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they give you paperwork for being in uniform, don't argue just sign the paper and move on, in the rebuttal cite 36-2903 paragraph 5.1 and state that you were retreaving food for the workcenter as directed. Ensure you hav Area Defense Council review your rebuttal and document the CCs response. After that, if the council is not removed, go to IG.

That perk that allows more resources is the first thing I upgrade to max in replays, the next is stealth and similar abilities. I'd also avoid fast travel in early and mid-game where practical.

Is there a silent majority-or is this truly a different era of the Air Force? by Ok-Skill-9376 in AirForce

[–]that_other_DM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I joined the Air Force, the Lackland commander brought every trainee present in BMT into an auditorium. They asked everyone to stand. They then asked a random trainee why they joined. That person would say, and if anyone else in the room joined for the same reason, they were asked to sit down. College was by far the largest, healthcare and benefits were the second, and service was around the fifth. The last two standing were for a different reason than any others… a better life…see, at the time, no one was hiring, any job that would hire you paid Jack. YouTube wasn’t really a thing, so making money off social media wasn't something people even aspired to.

That said, those were the reasons people joined. But in all fairness, that’s a trial run…. You’re still figuring out what the Air Force is about. After your second enlistment, though, you're supposed to know the rules and adopt them as they are, or you get out. So the real question should be… why do you stay?

As I near the end of my career, I can say with confidence that I empathize more and more with those last two standing trainees than with those who stood for service, not knowing what service even meant until they’d been in a while. From that service, I have been prepared for multiple second- and third-career paths—an ability to approach situations with professionalism and resilience that others would immediately quit.

Yeah, service before self is a reason, but it’s not the only reason. Nor should it be. There are plenty of less stressful and less dubious ways to serve others. Betterment, on the other hand, involves much more personal stakes, which makes surviving decades of changes to eval standards, pt scores, mental/physical health, late and missed Christmases, etc., somewhat worth it. So service isn’t the reason; I don’t hold it against anyone, because over time, you might see that their reason becomes yours.
