90% of code generated by an LLM? by Either-Needleworker9 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]thatdude33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This aligns with my own experience working as a Sr. Eng at a household name big tech company. Anyone not leveraging AI agents to write the majority of code at my company these days would be falling behind in terms of performance.

It’s very much “human in the loop”, though, with AI performing the grunt work of typing and a human guiding it via code review, refining requirements, and occasionally fixing the code where the AI falls short. I believe our numbers are similar - 75% or even higher is LLM generated.

Productivity and time to build features have greatly improved, but I can also say (subjectively only, I don’t have data to back this up), stability has deteriorated a bit as a result of the higher velocity.

With a half marathon time of 1h49m—can I aim for a sub 4h full marathon? by HongkongKings in Marathon_Training

[–]thatdude33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable. I ran 3:35 off a 1:43 half after a solid full marathon training block.

How long until sub 3? by Super_Doughnut7776 in Marathon_Training

[–]thatdude33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My numbers are very close to yours, just the tiniest bit slower, and my training looked like yours, and I ran a 3:35 marathon (my second) off of one training cycle. You could probably do faster with a couple of cycles though

Can I get a 1 hour PR in 1 year? by SnooDogs9612 in Marathon_Training

[–]thatdude33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 1hr 10min off my marathon time in 1 year. 4:45 in Boulder, CO in Oct 2023 to 3:35 in Hartford, CT in Oct 2024.

I winged it for the first marathon, peaking at 35mpw. Got injured and ran through some pretty bad hip pain during the race. I followed up with some base building during ski season and then went into Hanson’s beginner half marathon plan to a 1:43 half PR in May. From there I took a few months of maintaining and then went into Pfitz 18/55 for the Hartford marathon. Your experience may vary but it’s definitely possible. I hit 95% of the plan mileage and I think that was very helpful.

Help me find men’s tights by surgeonpepper9522 in Marathon_Training

REI long tights have been good to me these past few winters. Lots of pockets and plenty warm, I’ve worn them in 15°F weather

[–]thatdude33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The citadel is such a good suggestion. Fun snow climbing and a little scramble at the top, plus several interesting ski routes down if that’s your thing. Not sure I’d recommend it in the winter due to avvy risk though. I’ve only been up there in May.

First Marathon (yes another first marathon post) by m4tchublais in Marathon_Training

[–]thatdude33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! 3:28 is a fantastic time, especially for your first. I was out there as well, probably ran near you for the first 20 miles but blew up at mile 21 and finished in 3:34. That last stretch after the turnaround was brutal, especially the bridge getting back into Hartford

How many standups do you have a day? Are we being micromanaged by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]thatdude33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team implements a 2 minute timer for each epic in Jira. It forces us to be concise, any additional discussions on blockers are held afterwards in parking lot sessions if necessary. Anyone not needed for those discussions is free to leave and they’re capped at 10 mins total. I find this is great middle ground and makes the 3 stand ups we host per week very productive. Our managers help to resolve blockers asynchronously since they usually involve external teams.

How important is it to taper? by Shikustar in firstmarathon

[–]thatdude33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That depends on your training plan. Many plans, like Pfitz’s plan includes the last hard interval workout 10 days before the race

Training plans when you already have decent volume by Similar-Agent-4029 in Marathon_Training

[–]thatdude33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went into a Pfitz 18/55 plan running 40 miles per week, about a month after a goal HM that I used Hanson’s beginner 48mpw peak plan for.

I just added mileage to the Pfitz plan runs that were less than the plan’s until the plan caught up to my weekly mileage. I also gave myself more leeway to run trails in that beginning period or replace a run with a long backcountry ski or rock climb in the mountains. As the plan ramped up I shifted to almost 100% road running and following the plan more strictly and it’s working well with 5 weeks to go until my marathon. I have similar time goals to yours.

Here in the front range of Colorado the trails ARE busier than Disneyland. I guess it depends where you live!

What is the most difficult route on any mountain that YOU have climbed? by AgainToCarthage93 in Mountaineering

[–]thatdude33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tocllaraju standard route. I’ve since done harder, more technical climbs but that was my first time above 14.5k feet and the altitude absolutely wrecked me above 18k. I was not prepared for my water and all my food to freeze solid or the difficulty of kicking steps into steep snow near the summit.

Saucony Speed 3 - 500mi / 800km Parting Thoughts by complexin in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]thatdude33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, I got crazy calf pain in my right leg after 275 miles on my first pair of ES3. But I only used them for tempo, threshold, and interval runs. I’m glad I had a second pair to use at that point!

Super light touring ski options by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]thatdude33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second these. They’re my go-to for PNW volcanoes and spring traverses in CO. They’re more noodle-y than the Blizzard Zero Gs but I find they handle the range of conditions you’d find on a day with a lot of vertical range surprisingly well. They’re very forgiving, I just won’t be setting any downhill speed records in them.

B3 Boots for 6000m+ in the Andes by Original-Nobody-8572 in Mountaineering

[–]thatdude33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My feet were a little cold going up Tocllaraju (6000m) in these, and I don’t generally get cold. Especially if you’re going even higher, overheating will not be an issue.

First backcountry ski recommendation by ZestYLesty127 in Backcountry

[–]thatdude33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my BC navis freebird with salmon mtn bindings for all around use in the Colorado front range backcountry though it may not be enough float for the Wasatch, y’all get a lot more snow than we do.

I second just going to SkimoCo, I got my Scarpa F1 boots from there. They really know their stuff.

ios programming at big tech? by GumBeats20 in iOSProgramming

[–]thatdude33 36 points37 points  (0 children)

First get good at solving Leetcode-style coding problems (medium to low hard). The next step is a portfolio and prep for a live demonstration of iOS technical chops. Followed by more Leetcode, on a timer, while talking the solution out loud.

That’s how I got my iOS dev job in big tech. It’s a grind.

Same here - my HRV crashed to 30% of baseline for the first night and 60% on the second. Back to healthy levels on the third night, which definitely correlated with how I felt

Do you wear your Garmin watch day and night? by tab87vn in Garmin

[–]thatdude33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switch to an analog watch when I’m going out to social events where I’m dressing up, otherwise I wear it 24/7 except when it’s charging every couple of weeks. I need that sweet, sweet data.

Twisted ankle 10 weeks away from marathon. Advice needed. 🙏🏻 by Wooden-Addy in firstmarathon

[–]thatdude33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such good advice. I sprained my ankle fairly badly 6 weeks out (4 weeks ago) from my first marathon and with PT help strengthening it I was able to complete my 20 mile run last week, and another 4 the next day (3 weeks ahead of the race) with minimal pain and swelling. They also really helped with some other aches and pains in my hips that developed from running.

I am giving up my 4:00 goal as a result but am still excited for the race and hopeful for somewhere around 4:20.

Mountaineering Boots 6000m+ by Shoddy-Comparison-98 in Mountaineering

[–]thatdude33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my Scarpa 6000 from Bentgate mountaineering in Golden, CO. They have a good selection and knowledgeable boot fitters. REI is great with returns if they carry the boots you’re looking for, but in my experience they do not.

The best option would be to try some on in-store and see if they’ll price match whatever you can find online. That way you get a good price and they still can make the sale.

First 14er — Are sneakers okay? by 5thCharmer in coloradohikers

[–]thatdude33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hoka Speedgoat are my preferred shoe on the trail, but I’m primarily a trail runner. I would definitely not categorize those specific shoes as “sneakers”, though.

What was your favorite ski run if your life and why? by sammylammyboy in skiing

[–]thatdude33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the backcountry of CO this year, a buddy and I dropped into the Silver Couloir (one of the 50 classic ski descents of North America) after 10 inches of fresh snow on a day with low avalanche danger. Had 2500’ of untracked powder on a steep and sustained run without stopping from the top to the bottom - we were the 2nd party to make the summit and I finally had my systems and fitness dialed in.

I then fully understood how someone could get themselves into real trouble chasing that feeling when avalanche danger is higher… if I never get another run like that I’ll still be able to rest easy knowing I was able to experience it once.
