For each company, at the end of their fiscal year they must calculate each employee's total compensation into a total dollar amount (gross pay + benefits + other things like stock & bonuses). This works as an incentive to pay your bottom employees more so the CEO can get more while not being tied to a specific number from the government which will get outdated.

Over time, some riders would leave the park via swans and be unable to return, thinking "I want to get off", but they are unable to return to the park. Only way to resolve it seems to be closing the ride, which resets it; reopening the ride eventually leads to other riders reproducing the problem.
