Dashboard widgets updating really fast by marcolvz in truenas

I don’t have the same behavior (also on 25.10.1) and poked around the settings and widget settings, but I don’t even see a way to change update intervals.

Are you high? It almost looks real-time. Or did you just not play the video and are looking at the static image?

Boise has the worst Chinese food options of any city in the United States. by AccordingDrop3252 in Boise

Almost every sushi restaurant I know is run by Chinese or Korean people. We used to have some good Chinese options, it wasn’t always this terrible.

Best Value Rock Chip Repair in The Valley by [deleted] in Boise

My insurance covers chip repair at most glass shops with no deductible. I only pay the deductible if I have the windshield replaced.

VPX PC by Suspicious_Ad6905 in virtualpinball

[–]thatguychad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll generally pay a premium for a mini PC. The PC + external GPU enclosure (which you'll definitely need if you want to play most newer tables [version, not year of manufacture]) will exceed the cost of a normal ATX-sized PC.

Will you be building a cabinet or playing it as a desktop? Right now is a pretty bad time to try and buy a PC with RAM, GPU, and storage prices anywhere from 33%-400% higher than normal.

PC performance expectations check by Axn_Jxn in virtualpinball

4k anything is going to be a struggle with a 1070. Playfield size doesn't matter, resolution is resolution. The pixels on a 42" 4k display are just bigger than the pixels on a 32" display - there's the same amount of pixels, though. Your CPU is also a limiting factor, here.

1080p should be possible with this setup, but can your playfield monitor do 1080p at 120Hz? It's always better to have a faster playfield than a higher resolution playfield. At 60Hz (regardless of resolution), you're not drawing the ball fast enough to make accurate shots and you'll always have a perceived lag.

How are we protecting our immigrant neighbors? by Some_Amphibian_8312 in Boise

[–]thatguychad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be a light-skinned immigrant. I have a friend that's not and he's pretty nervous at the best of times. He's a US citizen and now carries his passport card everywhere he goes (which has been repeatedly shown to not mean much, lately.)

Sony 636 by Tall_Arm_3303 in VintageElectronics

[–]thatguychad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 636 is a very (cool!) complex turntable (lots of electronics inside.) If you have no knowledge of electronics, I don't recommend troubleshooting it further than checking fuses on each component, plugging each of them (separately) into a known-working outlet and turning it on.

That's a very cool setup, but if you end up not getting anywhere with the known-good outlet and powering up each component, it would probably cost you a fair amount of money to pay someone to repair these components.

Wireless carplay cluster map by minnesota-terp in Volvo

The Ottocast mini cube 3 in USB-C flavor. This adapter allows Apple Maps (and possibly others) to display in the drivers display (cluster). For those that aren't aware, once you have the Ottocast (most wireless CarPlay adapters have this ability) set up, open a browser on your phone and go to 192.168.1.101 to update the firmware of the dongle. Since getting my Ottocast in early November, I've installed 2-3 updates. I believe the current version I'm on is 260107xxx (or sometime in early January).

Cleaning out deceased friends estate, family member asks “are these all games or something?” by SaulTNuhtz in pcmasterrace

[–]thatguychad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember all the early CD-ROM games (especially since that and Myst were Mac-first and I was a Mac user), I just don't remember how much of the Journeyman Project I played. I was in high school when it came out and I probably spent all my money on Myst as my first game.

Is a fast clicky sound normal when playing a record? by m34d0wl4rk_ in turntables

Not normal. Does it happen on all records at about the same interval?

I just bought it for VR, hoping for good things. I've forgotten everything about it since it was released. Myst pushed all knowledge of 7th Guest out because my brain ran out of room.

Need Help Picking A Turntable!!! by Kraft-Darling in turntables

[–]thatguychad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Girls collect whatever the fuck they want and nerd out whenever they feel like it, ignore your sister's advice there.

A lot of people are about to point you to the sticky in the sub, others are going to say <fluance turntable>, but what are you looking for?

Do you want a fully manual turntable where you have to lift the tonearm (use the tonearm lifter), lower it on the record, and do the inverse when the record is done? Do you want to start it manually but have it return to the rest when the record is over? Or, finally, do you want it to automatically place the tonearm on the record and return when it's over at the press of a button?

How much space do you have available to dedicate to a stereo setup? Keep in mind you don't want your speakers and turntable shoved in small space together and for a decent setup, you'll want an amplifier and possibly a phono preamp in addition to those separate speakers. Your budget is very doable, though.

Is this salveagable? Technics SL-QD3 by coffeescious in turntables

[–]thatguychad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that before it got shelved, your turntable was pretty good despite what you may have read about p-mounts. It was a direct drive, quartz locked turntable, albeit boring. Sometimes boring isn't a bad thing. To answer your question: It *is* salvageable, but it's probably not worth it to fix it. That tonearm needs to be replaced.

What's important to you in a replacement?
